are a mix of Tufa, iron rich red clay, and abundant rocky areas. Even though proprietors Ron and Susan Krausz planted their first vines on the property in 1998, it wasn't until several years later that their first "true" vintage was bottled.

With the help of the talented and famous winemaker Philippe Melka, Ron and Susan tasted many wines and blends from their property for many years. Each year, they listened to which techniques in the vineyard translated to better wine. Again, each year, they fine-tuned these practices until they were sure the vineyard was well-established, trained properly, and were producing world-class wines.

Enter Sam Kaplan; Arkenstone Vineyard Manager and Winemaker since their commercial release. Sam has, since day one at Arkenstone, farmed the vineyards organically. Sam is exceptionally knowledgeable, and not only uses Arkenstone's state-of-the-art winemaking facility to its fullest, but he also knows when to be "hands off", and let the vineyard's own characteristics shine; terroir, if you will.

This is a blend of 97% Sauvignon Blanc and 3% Semillon, entire from Arkenstone's Howell Mountain estate. The wine was aged in a combination new French oak, used French oak, and concrete eggs, and only 330 cases were produced! Pale gold in color, this incredibly complex and well-structured wine is drinking beautifully now, but also has great aging potential. The clean, bright nose of wet stone, pineapple, peach, lilac and honeysuckle invite you into flavors of papaya, ripe nectarine and fig. Moving into the mid-palate, the razor sharp focus of green apple and lemon curd integrates perfectly with the lush, soft roundness of papaya, mango, pineapple, and pear. Honeydew melon, peach and crisp apple blend with spring floral notes of lavender and lilac on an exceptionally long, satisfying finish.

Bridesmaid White is a blend of great Napa Appellation Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon . Individual vineyards picked and pressed and fermented in tanks and barrels. The final Bridesmaid White is a classic combination where the Semillon brings “jelly to the belly” of the “sauvage” of Sauvignon Blanc. A very pleasing color greets the eye and hibiscus flowers, lime blossom, kumquat, loquat stone, Yosemite minerals for the nose. Just the right amount of crispness satisfies the senses and finishes round and creamy like the meringue on a pie. The Semillon brings “jelly” to the more austere Sauvignon!

Most Sauvignon Blancs at this price are crisp yet simple, but Buena Vista brings us a medium-bodied Sauvignon Blanc showcasing aromas of sea salt, smoke, and citrus peel, such as lemon and lime. It also shows some warm spiciness, green cardamom, anise, sweet hay and honeydew. The lime peel and honeydew carry over on the palate, leading to a clean and fresh, lingering finish.

and quinine is marked by a hint of lanolin (no doubt from the Semillon). On the palate, medium-full bodied with a pleasant viscosity. Flavors of lemon, quinine, and grapefruit persist through the dry, mineral-laden finish. If you prefer oaky and/or low acid whites, then this wine is not for you. But if you love white Bordeaux, dry whites from the Loire or Savoie, or even some the cool old-vine white blends from the Swartland in South Africa, then this wine should be right up your ally. Enjoyable now as long as you don’t serve it too cold (a decant helps as well), given the zesty acidity and pleasing phenolics in the finish, we suspect this wine will age well. Enjoy from 2016 through 2023."

When Cliff Lede (pronounced “LAY-dee”) was in his late 20s, he was given his first taste of good Bordeaux. After that, as it has been said so many times before, he was hooked! Since Read More...
that time, he has acquired a vineyard in the Napa Valley, and immediately assembled a team who is dedicated to taking Bordeaux varietals to a whole new level... and they’re doing what it takes to achieve that!

At the head of the winemaking team is the talented and dedicated Michelle Edwards. She earned a B.S. in viticulture and enology ad UC Davis, endured 12-hour graveyard shifts at a grape-crushing facility in southern Australia, and worked harvests at Peter Michael and J Vineyards & Winery. She came to Cliff Lede Vineyards from Colgin Cellars, where she served as the assistant winemaker for three years, and worked with master viticulturist David Abreu. David is now managing the vineyards at Cliff Lede, and together, he and Michelle continue working to source the secrets of each vintage.

The Sauvignon Blanc comes from three different vineyards; two which impart vibrancy and finesse, and one from Rutherford for richness. To prevent one dominant tone, different processes were used; some fruit was whole-clusterpressed, while another portion was subjected to 16 hours of skin contact. The juice was fermented in stainless steel, oak barrels and concrete to preserve freshness and build complexity. We thought it was a knockout! Enticing aromas of white peach, cantaloupe, and orange blossom are complemented by bright, citrus notes of lemon curd and zest. Tropical flavors of pineapple and carambola introduce a rich and concentrated palate that finishes with persistent minerality.

and deficit-irrigated to focus the plant’s energy on fruit development. Dragonette purchases this fruit by the acre, permitting them to control the farming practices, limit yields, manage the canopy and harvest in selective picks.

They harvested their blocks of Vogelzang in a series of selective picks, harvesting only the ripest clusters and leaving others for further flavor development. Within hours, they gently pressed the grapes and transferred the juice directly to a mixture of stainless and French oak barrels (15% New). Primary fermentation was completed in both tank and barrel, with native yeasts and temperature control. They blocked malolactic fermentation to retain freshness and aged the wines on their lees for 12 months, before making this reserve selection and blending it into tank. They then aged the wines for 6 additional months before bottling.

ANTONIO GALLONI'S VINOUS MEDIA 92 POINTS - "Vivid yellow. Explosive aromas of poached pear and tangerine, with exotic notes of smoky minerals, peach and white flowers adding complexity. Juicy, penetrating pit and orchard fruit flavors show very good depth and vivacity, picking up a hint of honey with air. Really coats the palate, finishing with outstanding clarity and lingering floral character."

characteristics of this grape. They have found those vineyards, and now their Sauvignon Blancs have become some of our favorites! Happy Canyon, with its unique soils and climate – warm to hot summer days and cool to cold evenings – is ideal for promoting full phenolic ripeness while still retaining critical acidity. This bottling represents an appellation blend of lots they feel express the characteristics of Happy Canyon; explosive, bright yellow and tropical fruits and melons balanced by fresh, clean and present acidity, but without the herbaceousness sometimes associated with the grape. The Happy Canyon bottling is a 50-50 blend of grapes from Grassini and Vogelzang, both top notch vineyards, exquisitely farmed for ultra high quality. The wine was fermented and aged on its lees in 80% neutral oak barrels and 20% stainless steel. The wine demonstrates the classic Vogelzang tropical fruit notes along with the elegant energy of the Grassini vineyard and great body and length.

Continuing the legacy of the Wagner Family's other profound wine ventures such as Caymus, Belle Glos, and Conundrum, Jenny Wagner takes the reins of Emmolo (m – oh – low) Winery and Read More...
is making a hit with these new releases! Her family has a long-standing history in Napa Valley beginning with her great-grandfather, Italian immigrant, Salvatore Emmolo, who planted grapevines and started a grapevine rootstock nursery in Rutherford in the 1920’s. His son, and Jenny's grandfather, Frank Emmolo, ran Emmolo Nursery and built a strong following amongst Napa Valley grapegrowers - becoming the leading supplier to Napa Valley vintners for five decades.

Jenny Wagner believes the key to creating a truly unique expression of California Sauvignon Blanc begins in the vineyards. A variety of effective methods were taken to decrease crop production for higher quality wine, including bloom brushing, root pruning and deficit irrigation. The 2013 vintage had a mild growing season that was longer than usual, allowing for slow ripening and a long “hang time.”

In Jenny Wagner's opinion, Sauvignon Blanc runs the risk of being overly herbaceous, overly oaked, or simply one-dimensional. She feels a good Sauvignon Blanc should have natural firm acidity, crisp fruit and bright minerality, like that of a wet stone - a style of Sauvignon Blanc that can be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif or paired with a wide variety of food. This is an elegant and refined style of Sauvignon Blanc that is subtle and balanced, with minerality and bright natural acidity. On the nose, aromas of citrus, iron, wet stone and a hint of D’Anjou pear tempt your senses, while a crisp lightness, balanced acidity and underlying notes of fleshy grapefruit and lime zest please the palate. The significant minerality and soft body rounds out the wine. This Sauvignon Blanc was made to pair with food, yet is very versatile. Bottled using a Guala twist top in lieu of cork.
