SATTA 2010 BOLGHERI ROSSO
The legendary Michelle Satta is something of an outlier among the sun-drenched and deep-pocketed elite of Bolgheri. Occasionally termed a “classicist,” Satta’s wines are somewhat more elegant and restrained than the prototypical Super Tuscans we’re used to from Bolgheri. Consequently, his wines have garnered the praise and attention of some of the Italian wine world’s most discriminating connoisseurs and press (Matt Kramer comes to mind). The 2010 Bolgheri Rosso is Satta’s calling card—a deliciously satisfying blend of Cabernet, Sangiovese, Merlot, Teroldego, and Syrah that is hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts before spending twelve months in old French oak, ultimately bottled unfiltered. The resulting wine is smooth, complex, and indicative of great finesse and breed.
One of the best Bolgheri has to offer, a steal at $18.98.
