HENRI PRUDHON 2009 SAINT AUBIN ROUGE SUR LE SENTIER DU CLOS 1ER CRU VIEILLES VIGNES

From 40- to 80-year-old vineyard plots in Saint-Aubin and a hill between Saint-Aubin and Gamay, where vines with many small-sized bunches, very rich in "millerand" (small berries), lend excellent depth and flavor, this wine stands tall, strong and comfortable in its own skin. Burhound.com's Allen Meadows is a tough but fair wine critic (his 89s are often other critics' 92s); when he makes big statements we tend to pay attention and he's spot on here: "...I would go so far as to say that Domaine Henri Prudhon is the most under rated producer in all of Burgundy."

The nose is a blend of spicy raspberry, mixed berries and plum compote, with dark florals, baking spices (clove) and subtle minerals lending support. The palate showcases tart cherries, kriek lambic, persimmon, sea salt, more mixed brown spices and tilled soil. The tannins are strong but balanced by fruit; fairly well-sized wine yet harmonious in scope and scale. Should drink quite well for years to come.
