On the palate it is an unctuous and silky.

The grapes come from old Tinto Fino vineyards located on clay-limy hills with a low yield. The 2004 vintage was a historic one due to the weather conditions: rainy Fall, freezing Winter, slight showers during Spring time and a dry Summer. The harvest season was the hottest ever.

INTERNATIONAL WINE CELLAR 91 POINTS "Dark ruby. Explosive aromas of dark berry and cherry preserves, with smoke, game and violet accents. Plush and expansive, offering spicy cherry and cassis flavors and notes of candied flowers and bitter chocolate. Vanilla and cracked pepper build with air and carry through a long, sappy and gently tannic finish. Incidentally, the 2008 bottling of this wine is drinking very well right now, with plenty of juicy dark berry character and brightening minerality; no rush to drink it but no crime to do so now, either."

WINE SPECTATOR 90 POINTS - "Juicy black cherry and red plum flavors mingle with notes of licorice, black pepper and toast in this firm, fresh red. Displays enough structure for food but remains balanced and lively."

WINE ADVOCATE 90 POINTS "The 2009 Condado de Haza Crianza undergoes malolactic fermentation in barrique where it ages for 15 months. It offers a lovely ripe, yet controlled bouquet of raspberry, kirsch and incense that blossom with aeration. You can almost smell that Ribera warmth! The palate is very well balanced with fine tannins over-layering a sweet core of red fruit. It is playful and joyful, belying its fine structure and citric fresh finish. This is a wonderful wine from Condada de Haza."

STEPHEN TANZER 90 POINTS " Glass-staining ruby. Dark berry, bitter chocolate and potpourri on the perfumed nose. Spicy, penetrating black and blue fruit flavors show impressive clarity and lift, with a zesty mineral nuance adding bite. Smooth and seamless on the subtly tannic finish, which leaves juicy blueberry and violet pastille notes behind."

The aromatics are a tight fist of fruit at the moment: almost belligerently backward. The palate works better with lush, ripe cranberry, kirsch and raspberry fruit interlaced with tobacco, the decadent, rambunctious finish delivering a payload of sweet, sexy ripe fruit. Drink 2018-2030."

luscious raspberry, blackberry and forest floor notes. The palate is full-bodied with filigree tannins and a little more volume than the 2010. It seems generous and very supple at this early juncture with a caressing, peppery finish that is extremely well focused. There 2011 has awesome potential and I cannot wait to taste this after two or three years in bottle."

Dominio de Pingus is located in the La Horra region of Ribera del Duero. Owner/winemaker, Peter Sisseck, an oenologist originally from Denmark, started the estate in 1995. Flor de Pingus is sourced from a number of small parcels located in the La Horra zone. The vines are all over 40 years of age and have been farmed biodynamically since 2005.They are either owned or rented by Peter Sisseck, so Flor de Pingus always comes from the same pieces of ground. In that sense it is not a second wine but there is no question that is a very close approximation of Pingus at a fraction of the price. That makes it a relative bargain in the scheme of things.

The famous Ribera del Duero appellation in Spain’s Castilla y Leon region is the undisputed source of some of the world’s greatest red wines. Based on the noble Tempranillo grape, also familiar to us from Rioja, these full-bodied, suave, and complex wines have intrigued collectors and connoisseurs for generations, and the best among them can improve for decades in the cellar. And this one--with its astronomical score and renowned pedigree--is about as good as Ribera del Duero gets.

From the peerless estate of Bodegas y Viñedos Valudero, we are thrilled to be the exclusive retailer in California offering this great wine, which comes to us already complete with an incredible 10+ years of bottle age! From 100% Tempranillo, or Tinto Fino, as it’s called in Ribera del Duero, this majestic wine was recently awarded 95 points from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate.
