in a misshapen bottle covered in phony dust. There are normally 3 or 4 vintages included in the blend and the current version includes the 2006 (about 30%), 2008 (about 10%), 2007 (about 10%) and the balance 2009. This is the best blend I have yet tasted of this cuvee. The wine reveals classic notes of garrigue, lavender, pepper, earth, sweet kirsch, roasted mushrooms and meat juices. Already drinking well, it should continue to provide pleasure over the next 5-8 years."

a sensuous texture to the dried tropical fruit flavours. Seriously lengthy with an impressively hefty finish. Big, bold wine vinified from grapes found in pure granite soil; very long elevage to accentuate its concentration; lots of lees contact with malolactic done in barrel; extremely limited availability.

to offer a heavy caricature of Condrieu. The real great Condrieu has to be made with nice golden bunches but shouldn’t excess 13,5° in alcohol. The equation is difficult to solve in a hot year like 2003. But in 2011, the slow ripening allowed to harvest at the exact optimum. Then the ageing on the lies brings the volume and the depth. As we don’t really know what the global warming will reserve in the future, let’s appreciate immediately this Condrieu «In Antiquis», the real Condrieu.. It goes very well with truffles or a Roquefort soup."

stunningly long personality. This is a superb quasi-modern style of Cornas that should be ready to drink in 2-3 years, and last for over a decade.

Proprietor Matthieu Barret is another member of Cornas’ younger generation of producers who have embraced the use of smaller barrels as well as more sanitary vinification techniques. The results are wines imbued with good purity, sweeter tannins, appellation typicity, and more approachable styles that retain 15 or more years of aging potential."

WINE SPECTATOR 91 POINTS: "Dark yet fresh, offering blackberry and mulled black cherry fruit, with vibrant acidity, lively olive and tobacco notes and a good brambly feel through the finish. Best from 2014 through 2023. 1,500 cases made." –JM

aromas and flavors of black raspberry, graphite, beef blood, iron, cedar and white pepper (among other things). This is Cornas at its finest, with insane aromatics, full-bodied richness and massive concentration, yet at the same time staying elegant, seamless and gorgeously pure. Grenache and 10% Mourvedre, it comes primarily from the Plan de Dieu (Plain of God), which is situated northeast of Chateauneuf du Pape. WINE ADVOCATE 92 POINTS - "Starting the reds, the 2012 Cotes du Rhone Coudoulet de Beaucastel looks to be an outstanding example of this cuvee. Read More...
Showing plenty of black cherry, mineral, cracked pepper and underbrush, it is medium-bodied, possesses great acidity, and gains in both richness and depth in the glass. While most Cotes du Rhones drink best in their first 4-5 years of life, this cuvee can age well past a decade. Drink now-2022. Range: 90-92"

STEPHEN TANZER 92 POINTS - - "Youthful purple. Spicy, highly perfumed dark berry and Indian spice scents show very good clarity and pick up a smoky nuance with air. Densely packed but lithe too, with juicy black and blue fruit flavors and a touch of lavender adding lift. Dusty tannins shape the finish, which clings with impressive tenacity and subtle spiciness. According to Marc Perrin, the vines that provide the fruit for this wine are now over 80 years old. Range: 90-92"

with zippy acidity and a touch of white spices to make it a winner at the dinner table. Not overly complex but a crowd pleaser! Particularly fine with Summer barbeques! But also charcuterie, pizza, pasta, etc…! Easy going!

the site of a Roman villa, Louis’ cellars show spectacular remains of old, Roman vinification vats carved into the limestone. Here, Louis works with different grape varietals from the Rhône, vinifying each parcel separately. He has recently taken to acting as a micro-négociant, working closely with top growers in the northern part of the region who still work with la vieille sérine, an ancient version of Syrah. Producing only a few precious barrels of each cuvée, Louis is helping to save the authenticity and the identity of many great old Côte Rôtie parcels, and now those of Hermitage and Crozes, by keeping them out of the hands of the large, corporate négociants in the area. Together, he and Kermit blend our Cypress Cuvée (Rouge) and Sunflower Cuvée (Blanc) from his own vineyards, and the other Northern Rhône wines from a selection of Louis’ purchases. Louis selects the best parcels he can find, and then Kermit shows up and either has a cuvée bottled unfiltered, or he blends to find the assemblage that satisfies his esthetic criteria.

the northern areas of the Rhone valley.
We noticeably remember about the magnificent vintage 1999 which gave syrah of stunning freshness. They
were straightforward and precise. The syrah from Vinsobres and from the Terrasses Villafranchiennes of
the Gard give this year remarkable results. Be ready to taste this year a Côtes du Rhône full of fruit and
fresh aromas, with a nice tight texture. It will be “interesting” to propose this wine as a blind taste to your
friends (or your ennemies !!) to get them wrong. It is possible that a few of them think that this syrah comes
from Cornas or Crozes-Hermitage.. It is my pleasure to offer every year a wine of this quality at a
reasonnable level of price. This is what french wine means: bottle a bit of spirit even at an affordable price.
While I talk about spirit, I would like to thank my father who created this label that looks like us: it was 17
years ago. He had then drawn the pavillon, in the same style that he had used to create the Gigondas label
showing the Saint Cosme chapel … back in 1960.

Tannic and dense ruby/purple, it is more masculine and austere than usual, but still concentrated with tangy acidity, loads of tannin, and impressive levels of concentration and richness. This is a beauty that will require patience. Give it 3-4 years of bottle age and then drink it over the following 10-12 years. The Ogiers are a wonderful family, and it’s gratifying to see the extraordinary quality of wine that continues to emerge from them. The son Stephane has taken over fully from his dad, who seems to be inching into full retirement, and continues to push the estate to higher and higher levels of quality."
