wanted to set this offering on the top of the new 'Single Pot Still' lineup from their distillery. So who did they ask to take on this formidable task? Barry Crockett himself. Not only was Barry raised and tutored his whole life at the distillery-- where his father Max was master distiller-- he was born there in the cottage on the distillery grounds! He has Midelton in his blood!. The Midleton Barry Crockett Legacy edition contains 3 levels of pure pot still whiskies: light, medium and heavy pot still and it is aged in both used bourbon and new American oak barrels (something new for the Midelton brand) with an intended limited release of 2,500 (+/-) bottles per year. The nose presents mellow, dulcet barley, honey, under-ripe peach, rosemary, tropical fruits, toffee, citrus, grass/straw and apples. The palate follows the nose accenting the ampler flavors like tobacco, honey, cedar, fruits, treacle, honey comb, vanilla, pear drops, maple and candied citrus. The finish is supple restating the flavors with a touch of spice and fading with delicate candied tones. This is intricate, complex, daedal and lingering whiskey. Try it neat or with a splash of cool water and enough time to take in all of its glory.

Aromas begin on the sweeter side with fruit cake, honey, raisins, chocolate, bran muffins, toffee and caramel, then evolves to baked plantains with dried ginger, grilled pineapple, cinnamon, orange zest, coffee, clove and toasty wood. The palate shows sweet and simple examples of the sumptuous aromas; with attention you can separate the caudated aromas as flavors, but the pleasantness is so much easier to just enjoy. The finish carries on the honeyed sweetness, coffee, toffee and caramel, maintaining the stewed dried fruit, nuts and spice from the palate; the finish is also warmer than the nose and mouthfeel imply, but pleasantly so-- providing a luxuriously vivid counter balance to the over all well-fixed lavishness of this rum. Try this neat, with a splash of cool water or even an ice cube.

7 years in American oak before being blended and bottled. The rum is named after the protagonist in the novel “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha” by Miguel de Cervantes. Pleasant aromas of caramel, straw, vanilla, allspice, leather, white flowers, overripe fruit and oak compel you to take a sip. The flavors begin sweet with vanilla, molasses, some citrus, dried fruits and oily nuts but transition into drying minerals, flowers, spice and herbs. This rum has a nice mouthfeel, interesting palate activity and a broad spectrum of flavors—especially for a lighter styled rum. The finish is moderate and gracious with toasty oak spice and some tobacco notes that linger. Try this neat, in a snifter, drink it on the rocks, with a splash of water or in a tasty cocktail—it is wonderfully versatile.

It was released in 1993 but has only recently made it here to Hi-Time. Grand Añejo blends older and younger rums to harness a balance between the sweet and the dry that is harmonious. The nose reveals under-ripe tropical fruit (green banana skin) with tight baking spices backing up damp dark wood and leather. The tastes follow that direction and include provocative sour notes that linger and are carried along with flavors of smoky custard or burnt sugar in a medium bodied mouth feel. Drink this on the rocks, with a splash of water or in a tasty cocktail.
