The nose on this wine is loaded with fresh cherry fruit, cherry cola, a light peppery spice and touch of earth. The term “Burgundian” comes to mind upon smelling it. The palate is loaded with good, forward fruit, lush tannins and good depth. Cherry, tobaccco and black tea flavors lead the charge with touches of earth and blueberries closely following. A fairly good-sized wine, this will stand up to red meats easily. Very nice wine.

The nose is very fresh for a 2000-- still lots of cherry fruit, spice, spun sugar and pomegranate fruit leather notes. And the color is a proper Burgundy color: pale translucent darkish red with a touch of copper on the edges. The palate is a wonderland of flavors, from the simplicity of young black cherry to notes of cedar plank or redwood, mixed brown spices (cinnamon, allspice, clove) and more pomegranate and Belgian kriek lambic.
This is an austere wine that echoes the sweetness of youth, surmounted with a glorious layer of acidity enwrapped in a myriad of flavors and scents as described above. Two foods that came to mind to pair with this were either a rosemary/herb-encrusted chicken or pork loin with cranberries/currants.
