Esteemed in Friuli and Alto Adige, tolerated in Alsace, and abused in California, Pinot Blanc has found an important home in Oregon. The same climate and soils that have made this Read More...
state famous for Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris also work for their sibling Pinot Blanc, giving Adelsheim wines that are racy, yet bold in character. By the 1970's in California, producers found that they had no true Pinot Blanc in the state, so David Adelsheim led a program to import two clones directly from Alsace to Oregon. Thus, David was in on the ground floor with this variety - 1989 was Adelsheim's first vintage.

Vivid green-apple and lemon flavors, this tangy mouthful mixes its high-acid lemony fruit with highlights of pineapple and grapefruit. Nicely delineated, but definitely for those who love acid.

Pinot Blanc is an old mutation of the Pinot Family, and more precisely a decoloration of the Pinot Noir originally planted in many circumstances. In Bourgogne, its region of origin, Read More...
Pinot Blanc was grown along side of Chardonnay. Imported in Alsace since the 16th century, it was replaced by Chardonnay in Bourgogne when the AOC rules were established in 1937. Today, the great majority of Pinot Blanc grown in France is cultivated in Alsace, where it has become one of the most widely planted grape varieties.
With its beautiful yellow dress, fresh, supple and tender, Pinot Blanc is fruity (lemon and apple) and floral (iris and violet). Slightly mineral, it has a nice structure and a well-balanced freshness. The bouquet also releases delicate aromas of butter and nuts.

and then as Winemaker for Shea Wine Cellars, he worked with some of the best vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Harper Voit is the logical progression of that work: seeking out great sites, excellent fruit, and long-term relationships with growers.

While pinot gris has been the white wine grape of choice for most of the Willamette Valley, there is currently a renaissance focusing other white wine varieties. Working with pinot blanc is based on the Willamette's historical European counterpart, Burgundy, where the variety had a long standing before being supplanted by (and replanted with) chardonnay. The choices in viticulture, vinification, and elevage are reflective of pinot blanc's historical roots, while still pressing forward and exploring its possibilities.

The 2012 Harper Voit Surlie Pinot Blanc, sourced from Crannell Vineyard in Eola-Amity AVA and Meredith Mitchell Vineyard in McMinnville AVA, is barrel fermented in used French oak and aged on lees for nine months. Reflecting the beautiful vintage, the fruit quality of the wine is bright, accompanied by laser-like acidity, a savory, complex palate and a lengthy, saline finish. Only 225 cases produced!

miles from the Hungarian border. Her south-facing vineyards form an amphitheater around Rust on Lake Neusiedl. These vineyards produce some of the best and most tradition-rich wines in Austria. The yearly hours of sunshine there are much higher than the Austrian average. The sunshine combined with sandy soils mixed with clay and high calcium content provide the ideal prerequisites for impressive, full-bodied dry wines. In 2003 Heidi was awarded "Falstaff Vintner of the Year", making her one of only a handful of women to obtain this honor. Her 2012 Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc) is stunningly good: delicate floral and green apple aromas lead to rich, full-bodied, complex stone fruit flavors and a long dry finish.
