Nascetta is actually a noble white grape variety that can produce long-lived, structured wines. Very distinctive and aromatic and unique to the commune of Novello. Valter Fissore of Elvio Cogno (Novello) single-handedly delivered the Nascetta grape from oblivion after he tasted a wine made using this once highly praised grape in 1991.The Nas-Cetta is fermented in stainless steel (70%) and barrique (30%), before ageing in steel then oak for six months each, prior to six months in bottle and then release.

Roberto Conterno recently purchased a parcel of the Cerretta vineyard in Serralunga. Can be enjoyed as early as the summer following harvest, thanks to its balance of components, although bottle age naturally endows it with greater roundness and a more velvety texture. Ruby red in color, with garnet hues in time, on the nose it is intense and delicate at the same time, reminiscent of violets and desiccated flowers. On the palate, it is dry, full-bodied, with a pleasing balance of acidity and extract. Outstanding quality and value!!!

According to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Oct 11: "Moderately saturated medium red. Reserved aromas of crushed redcurrant, cherry, mint and licorice complicated by leather and underbrush. Juicy and intense, with excellent acidity lending freshness and verve to the sweet red fruit flavors. Really spreads out on the back end. This very young nebbiolo is structured to age and may merit an outstanding rating with four or five years in the cellar. This was raised in all used tonneaux 'to privilege the fruit."

Rara and 15 percent Barbera and the fermentation is stopped early leaving around 6-7 grams per liter of residual sugar, 7.5% alcohol and a slight frizzante. This very tasty red offers up a medium-bodied, lush textured palate with delicious lightly sweet berry, plum and black cherry fruit with a nice zip of acidity that really cleanses the palate with a fresh and lively finish. We’ve offered this the past couple of Thanksgivings and couldn’t keep it in stock so we thought we’d get the word out early this year. A wonderful accompaniment with dinner and terrific on its own.
