the task at hand is. So being the hardcore surfer that he is, you can imagine how dedicated to winemaking Aaron must be when he has to leave those firing Central Coast point breaks to head for the vineyards! His wines have been staples at our store for years, and it's amazing how he can make Petite Sirah taste so good, keep it complex yet easy to drink, and sell such a tasty wine for a reasonable price!

Aaron's flagship wine is always a blend of his very best barrels of Petite Sirah. A blend of 5 vineyards all grown on calcareous/limestone soils, this wine shows deep and dark aromatics of blue and black fruits, peppercorn, bay leaf, anise, and tapenade. The palate is big, yet maintains some elegance, with blackberry, blueberry, smoked beef, loads of spice, with firm and gravelly tannins. Only 390 cases produced!

Amador and Lodi) combine lush berry and fierce spice into a wine characterized by its incandescence. Deeply luscious and succulent blackberries ignite this vintage of our rich rubyapparition. Aromas of anise and sweet fig are embraced by touches of black pepper. From the shadowed dark depths, subtle notes of cloves and vanilla emerge and complement the concentrated fruit characters of this wine.

Captured in 1-, 2- and 3-year-old American oak barrels, this wine showcases the best these distinct varietals have to offer. Welcome the winery ghost into your home again with this latest vintage, and enjoy with full-flavored and hearty meals… before it vanishes again.

since the mid 1800’s and their reputation has continued to grow. The fact that they want to sell wines that people can actually afford doesn’t hurt, either. Those seeking a quality wine for little money should look no further, as this Petite Sirah is one of our everyday favorites! Sourced from vineyards in Clarksburg and Lodi, this wine has a nose of luscious boysenberry that teases you with touches of black pepper and herbs. Trademark inky and jammy tones fill the mouth with ripe fruit and berries and a voluptuous finish that lingers with toasty oak and lush fruit.

is the Earthquake Zin that comes from an old Lodi vineyard planted around the same time of San Francisco’s great Earthquake of 1906. While mulling over a label name in the vineyard, Michael Phillips thought it only seemed fitting to relate this intense wine with the historical quake. With 15% alcohol and bold tannins, these dark and voluminous wines will definitely leave your senses quivering.

The 2013 EQ Petite Sirah offers the varietal’s typical full-bodied tannins, but the fruit is so opulent that its tannins are a very small part of its story. A whiff of violet lures you in, but then it’s all dark chocolate and summer blackberry in the mouth. Tooth-staining, yes, but this is no Zinfandel on steroids. More elegant than previous vintages, it’s down right pretty.

like GKG Cabernet Sauvignon and Stanton Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon out of Oakville. A handful of years back, Dave made this Petite Syrah-driven blend called Machete that blew our minds, showcasing loads of black fruits, hints of chocolate with this seamless texture from front to back, ending with lip-smacking, chewy yet integrated tannins…. The wine seemed to have disappeared just as quickly as it was released with everyone clamoring for more! Yet for some reason the bottling was not reproduced in the subsequent vintages much to the dismay of Orin Swift followers.

Out of the blue last spring, we heard through the grapevine that Dave was resurrecting the Machete label with a 2012 offering and it would be released by summer. After much anticipation, the wine arrived in racy new packaging but after uncorking a bottle we were pleasantly surprised that the wine was reminiscent to our cataloged memory of the original and over-delivered for its price point! Well, now we have a limited amount of the 2013 vintage which for California was an outstanding year even better than the 2012 growing season.

Characteristics of this release as described by Dave - “An opaque, purple chroma is brilliantly on display in the glass. An alluring fragrance of bright floral notes, violet juxtaposed with intriguing mountain characteristics. The entry is big, dark, and brooding with concentrated berry flavors, black cherry, mocha, and delightful earthy, brambly notes. Soft and lush, the tannins are sublime which offsets a pleasing mineral finish.”

WINE SPECTATOR 93 POINTS - "White pepper, violet, plum, blackberry, vanilla bean, nutmeg, black tea and espresso notes mingle effortlessly, lingering on the finish. Petite Sirah, Syrah and Grenache. Drink now through 2030."

Please note: Machete is bottled with 12 different lables....yes, 12. So the bottle you receive may not be the bottle in the picture.

They make 80,000 cases of this wine, which probably takes much of the production of Petite Sirah out of the Lodi AVA. An outstanding wine with gorgeous aromatics of incense, blueberry liqueur, camphor and blackberry, the wine hits the palate with a full-bodied, thunderous inky feel to it, great fruit purity, amazingly supple, velvety tannins for Petite Sirah and Petit Verdot, and a long finish. This is another wine that over-delivers in a big way. Drink it over the next 5-7 years."

Somerston Wines and their Priest Ranch. This is a sustainably-farmed vineyard that is producing some of the best Cabernet Sauvignon in the Napa Valley, yet they are flying under the radar, even for many who live in the Napa Valley. Some of their Cabernet vines are 40 years old, and while they keep a little for themselves, other wineries such as Kathryn Hall and Orin Swift have gladly stepped up to obtain the grapes! Owner Allan Chapman is a phenomenal steward of the land (one of the best we've seen anywhere in California), and winemaker assures that the ensuing wines remain unmanipulated, and show distinct terroir!

This is the fifth release of Priest Ranch Petite Sirah from the Somerston Estate. The wine was racked an amazing six times to tame the sometimes high level of tannin natural to Petite Sirah. This 2010 vintage is an inky wine with dark fruit aromas of warm berry pie and ripe plum. The palate offers supple dark cherry flavors, star anise and cinnamon with a wonderful balance of firm yet integrated tannins. This is an amazing wine!

located at the mouth of Dutch Henry Canyon. For over 75 years the property was primarily maintained as a farm and plum orchard, with vines intermingled amongst the trees. In 1990, the orchards were replanted to vineyard, where there are currently 18 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petite Sirah vines, in addition to a three acre 50+ year old Petite Sirah block that John Peterson helped plant as a child.

The wines are made by the ever-talented Bob Foley, who makes his own wines under the winery name Robert Foley, as well as the wines at Hourglass. He also made the wines at Pride Mountain for 15 years.

ROBERT PARKER 94 POINTS - "The fabulous, opaque purple-colored 2012 Petite Sirah Peterson Family Vineyard boasts beautiful blueberry, blackberry and blackcurrant fruit notes intertwined with notions of camphor, spring flowers, spice and oak.
