AGRICOLA PUNICA 2010 MONTESSU

60% Carignano, 10% Cabernet, 10% Merlot, 10% Syrah, 10% Cabernet Franc

The founders of Agricola Punica on the island of Sardinia include winemakers and owners from Tenuta San Guido (of Sassicaia fame in Tuscany) and Cantina Santadi (in Sardinia). The Montessu bottling is made of predominantly Carignano, which is of Spanish origin. The grape has found its perfect terroir in the warm, well-exposed Sardinian terrain. The grapes come from vines grown in the Basso Sulcis region on calcareous clay and sand soil. Hand harvested whole bunches are destemmed, crushed and macerated on the skins for several days prior to fermentation in stainless steel vats. The wine is aged in French oak for 15 months, 10% of which is new. Serve with your finest lamb, beef and pork dishes, or with aged hard cheeses.

WINE SPECTATOR 90 POINTS - " Fresh and finely detailed, with ripe raspberry and dark blackberry notes backed by fine tannins and hints of wild flower, tobacco and cherry pit."

WINE ENTHUSIAST 90 POINTS - " Elegant and tight, this blend offers savory tones of cured meat and dried fruit, followed by green notes of curry leaf and herb. The wine is tangy, thick and persistent on the palate."
