PIERRE SPARR 2011 PINOT GRIS

Famille Sparr has been making wines in Alsace since 1680. They own 15 hectares and work with well-experienced wine growers on another 130 hectares. Alsace is famous for food-friendly wines-- with a history incorporating French and German traditions, the wines have benefited from both. And for those of us on staff who unabashedly love French and German wines, is this not perfect? Is is-- and especially with turkey. The nose has notions of peach pit, apricot zest, sweet brown spice and a touch of river water minerality. The palate is rich and viscous with both light sweetness and acidity. On the palate, peach and apricot flavors resound, more brown spices and river rock notes surface, a touch of citrus keeps it fresh as we meander to the long, tasty finish.
