the mid 1800’s and their reputation has continued to grow. The fact that they want to sell wines that people can actually afford doesn’t hurt, either. Cabernet Sauvignon is a grape that takes its own sweet time, slowly lingering to ripen on the vine. We are rewarded by its reluctance.
Ripe cherries and vivid plums create a welcome first impression, while touches of earth tones and leather nestle themselves among the fruit. Sixteen months in American barrels have produced wisps of tobacco leaf and notes of spicy cigar box. With well-integrated tannins and a rich and round finish, this wine is sure to be a favorite.

Those seeking a quality wine for little money should look no further, as this Petite Sirah is one of our everyday favorites! Sourced from vineyards in Clarksburg and Lodi, this wine has a nose of luscious boysenberry that teases you with touches of black pepper and herbs. A little something for everyone: barrel fermentation, sur-lies aging, and partial malolactic fermentation. These hand-crafted processes create a rich and elegant wine with layers of complexity.
Fresh tropical fruits like pineapple, mango and green apple greet both the nose and palate upon first sip, followed up by a touch of lemon cream. Complimented by more creamy notes of butterscotch and caramel, the wine has a long, lingering finish hinting of toasty oak.

by the chief red in residence - grenache. Our traditional Biodynamic® grenache source from Alta Loma
Vineyard in Monterey County is supplemented with a smidge of our own Estate grenache adding a discreet spiciness to the attraction. Syrah is principally sourced from Bien Nacido Vineyard in Santa Maria Valley, which produces the closest analogue we have found to a Northern Rhône syrah - tannic and meaty in the lower registers; peppery, fruitful and delicately floral in the top, all the while showing great balance and harmony. A small group of non-irrigated, centenarian Contra Costa vineyards has provided mourvèdre for Cigare for many years and finally, a small dollop of cinsault provides a very particular fragrance of flowers and aromatic herbs.

native yeast, only the best lots were chosen to create the 2011 Eruption. The wine was blended early and bottled without filtration.
A blend of 39% Syrah, 27% Mourvèdre, 10% Malbec, 8% Petite Sirah, 8% Tempranillo, 4% Zinfandel, and 4% Grenache, the 2011 Eruption is rich and intense. The wine has aromas of dark berry, sandalwood and cocoa, giving way to flavors that are jammy, ripe and expressive. The palate is layered with supple and round tannins, making the wine both hedonistic while simultaneously elegant. The texture of this wine is perhaps its most distinguishing trait - mouth-coating with an endless finish. Be certain to have a second bottle on hand, the first won’t last very long.

and Albert Bichot’s “Secret”. All wines under $20 that over-deliver for their pricepoints. We think we have found a Chardonnay that does the same!
Butternut is a Chardonnay from Tony Leonardini, whose family owns Whitehall Lane. He made his first wine in 2000, and went to the “school of hard knocks” to learn how to bring good wine to the consumer’s table, and we in the wine industry have learned that his wines are notable for their taste and value.
The 2010 vintage was a MASSIVE hit, and the 2011 follows suit. This wine is very reminiscent of a few extremely high-demand California Chardonnays that sell for almost twice this price, but if we mentioned those other names, chances are we wouldn’t get an allocation from them again…so you can see why we’re a bit tight-lipped on that. With a light gold color, the aromas are redolent of apple, vanilla, tropical notes, and you guessed it…butter. The aromas follow through to the flavors, were they are joined by pineapple, pears, buttercream, a hint of nuttiness, and lingering acidity for freshness. Rich, round, and full-bodied, this wine has a long, lasting finish that sails on and on.

at the foot of Mt. Konocti, an ancient volcano, this prime site boasts a perfect southwestern exposure and vines rooted in well-drained, mineral-rich, red volcanic soils. Its hot sunny days, windy afternoons and nights chilled by breezes from nearby Clear Lake provide ideal conditions for three distinguished clones of Zinfandel, including Primitivo and heritage selections from Amador and Mendocino counties.
Reflecting the unique character of the Red Hills appellation, Cakebread's 2010 Zinfandel showcases bright raspberry, black cherry and dark plum aromas complemented by intriguing dusty earth, black pepper and milk chocolate scents. On the rich and lively palate, it delivers pure, deeply concentrated black raspberry, dark cherry and blackberry flavors streaked with mineral and briary spice tones. Beautifully structured with sturdy, but supple tannins, fresh acidity and a long, rich, chocolatey finish, this mountain Zinfandel wine is delightful to drink now, but will surely repay another 3-5 years of cellaring.

pears and peaches are some of the notes that emerge from this transparent, weightless wine. There is plenty of richness but no heaviness whatsoever in the glass. A beautifully chiseled finish rounds things out nicely. The Viognier Mt. Harlan was whole-cluster pressed and aged in French oak barrels with no rackings until it was prepared for bottling. This is a fabulous showing from Calera. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2018."
