this Voga really wowed us. It presents wonderful flora aromas of orange blossoms and ripe pears while the palate offers a subtle play of orchard fruits that are gently toned with citrus inflections. The finish, which is delectable and clean as whistle, is capped with a touch of crowd pleasing sweetness. Here is a serious, handcrafted bubbly that can be proudly poured along side the finest Champagnes. It was fashioned by the traditional Champagne method and had 30 months of yeast aging prior to disgorgement. It is made exclusively from Riesling sourced from the Grand Cru Pechstein vineyard-arguably the Pfalz’s best. The Pechstein name translates as “black stone” and refers to the site’s unique abundance of black basalt, a factor which imparts overt notes of minerals and herbs to the base wine. With a decade of cork aging under its belt, this sekt has hit full stride. Brassy hued with gentle bubbles, this sparkler presents an intricate perfume of lanolin, lemon drops, baked apples, and mint leaves. Dense, ripe fruits suggestive of poached pears and lemon curd lead an attack that is reinforced by brisk acidity and enduring undertones of flint and crushed stones. It is a crazy world indeed when one of world’s most fascinating and compelling sparklers hand be had for such a pittance.
