which increases hangtime and ultimately complexity. Planted in 1999, these Dijon clones are cane-pruned to reduce yield and have separate shoots for maximum cluster exposure. The nose on this wine is loaded with fresh cherry fruit, cherry cola, a light peppery spice and touch of earth. The term “Burgundian” comes to mind upon smelling it. The palate is loaded with good, forward fruit, lush tannins and good depth. Cherry, tobaccco and black tea flavors lead the charge with touches of earth and blueberries closely following. A fairly good-sized wine, this will stand up to red meats easily. Very nice wine.

cherry tobacco and smoked meats lightly touched with cinnamon and autumn spice and a wash of nice minerality. Pretty Pinot, indeed! The firm but finely structured palate blends red and black fruits (cherries and blackberries with cherry liqueur) with charry, smoky oak and rich licorice. This is a deliciously aromatic wine with concentrated varietal character. Further notes of black tea and a touch of lilac florals and red plum in the background endeared us to this one. Wine Spectator Advance just awarded this one a very well-deserved 93 Points.

In 2009, Kevin unveiled his personal venture, Greywacke (pronounced "grey-wacky"), named after New Zealand's prolific bedrock, and fulfilling a long-held dream of his and his wife Kimberley. one kicks it up to 12!). Fermented entirely with naturally occurring yeast – this is an alternative style of Sauvignon Blanc that is both intricate and textural. The nose is quite complex, meshing all kinds of big scents: lemongrass, green tropical fruits and melons, Asian star fruit, crushed celery, mineral water and a light diesel touch. The palate, like its younger sibling, is both fat and lean, with rich viscosity coating the mouth while the clean, appropriate levels of acidity keep it fresh and crisp. The fruit flavors lead where the nose started, with casaba, carambola and citrus in the foreground followed by a touch of crème fraiche in the mid-palate and ending with a grapefruit twist, more green-tinged fruits and a seam of background florals playing between the lines. There’s also a beautiful layer of minerality coursing throughout that stands out nicely-- we thoroughly enjoyed this one. A big nose leads to big flavors-- but they’re all balanced and show nice depth; intricate, nuanced touches fill in the gaps between the big waves of taste, all balanced, equalized by great acidity. This Sauvignon Blanc is unrated as of yet, but the 2009 received a Wine Advocate 93+ score.

the nose exhibits intensity of herbal and exotic hints of guava and elder flower. Balanced by the floral notes of geranium, gooseberry and figs, as well as tropical fruits - passion fruit and honeydew melon in particular. Maybe it was wishful thinking, but the first sip was like one of those exotic tropical fruit cocktails at a swim-up bar - 'holiday flavors'. The weighty palate and exquisitely soft texture is rounded out with layers of fresh acidity. Delicious medley of tangy citrus and minerality from the Isabel terroir.

Jules Taylor’s Pinot is bright, supple, and aromatic with fresh raspberry and mulberry fruit mixed with hibiscus floral notes and subtle spicy notes of ginger and tea. The style is perhaps closer to Oregon than to Central Coast Pinot as the acidity is bright and snappy.
