primary and intense, especially in its fruit, while the typical Monvigliero notes aren't fully developed. The 2010 is going to need some time to come together, but it is a beauty. With time in the glass some of the more floral and savory notes that are typical of this site begin to emerge, but only with great reluctance. Today the Monvigliero impresses for its texture, silkiness and exceptional overall balance."

with blueberry, cherry and raspberry character. Full body, with chewy tannins and a long and flavorful finish. A juicy and rich wine. Better in 2017."

Andrea Bosco, along with his father (Agostino) and mother (Carla), represent the quintessential family run and operated Piemontese winery. Long recognized by European critics, especially Decantur, as a “rising star”, Andrea’s wine making skills continue to reach new heights and new accolades here in the US.

La Serra is located in the heart of the bowl that lies below the town of La Morra and like most wines of La Morra is known for producing lighter styles of Barolo. However, though one would not confuse Andrea’s wines with the powerful, tannic monsters of, say, Serra Lunga, they are not as light in style as many other wines produced from La Serra. Part of this might be attributable to fact that his vineyard encompasses the first rows above the more powerful cru of “Brunate.” So while the label reads “La Serra”, there is definitely a presence of “Brunate” in the wines.

In the past, Andrea has experimented using new small oak barrels not because he was interested in “chasing points” or creating a style of wine for a particular palate, but because he was interested in producing the best wine possible from his land. Beginning with the 2008 vintage, he, shall we say, “got it right.” The wines no longer see any aging in small barrels, instead they spend 24 months in large, neutral oak barrels of 1,200 liters (Botte Grande). You won’t find any oak on the nose or on the palate – just pure, unadulterated nebbiolo aromas of dried strawberries, white roses and tar.

Long recognized by European critics, especially Decantur, as a “rising star”, Andrea’s wine making skills continue to reach new heights and new accolades here in the US.

Andrea has two crus from which he produces two very traditional Barolos. The first is in Verduno, where like the wines of Brangero, one is immediately struck by the aromatics of the wine. The Cru, Neirane, lies just beyond La Morra and from the soil rich in Marne, it producers a super fine, super elegant wine. The second Cru needs little introduction – La Serra.

with ripe tones of dark fruit (it is aged in neutral oak). Even the wine’s appearance is slightly darker and more concentrated that neighboring wines. The Serralunga d’Alba quality of ripe fruit and power really comes through, especially in the more nuanced and elegant 2010 vintage. The bouquet opens to reveal more spice and tobacco with time. The wine’s fullness and generosity work very nicely in this expression. Drink: 2017-2028.

Barbaresco zones in the Alpine foothills close to Lago Maggiore. The soils of this region are more acidic than those of the Langhe, which, paired with the cooler climate and altitude, results in highly fragrant, elegant wines at their best in hot years. Few estates remain in this historic northerly zone, but tenacious Antoniolo, established in 1949, is surely the most dynamic; Antoniolo was the first producer in the DOCG to bottle cru wines, and is one of the only to bottle 100% Nebbiolo without blending in other varietals. Vineyard age (year of planting): 1960, 1970 Soil type: Sub-acid, moranic (soils originating from an ancient glacier), volcanic (rich in minerals).

WINE ADVOCATE 96 POINTS - "The 2004 Barolo Riserva Bricco Boschis Vigna San Giuseppe comes across as decidedly powerful and broad-shouldered next to the Vignolo. A wall of massive tannins makes it hard to see through to the wine’s potential but with air the multiple dimensions of its personality begin to open up. Dark fruit, tar, mint, pine and a host of other spiced, balsamic aromas and flavors make an appearance on the large-scaled, dramatic finish. The 2004 San Giuseppe is an utterly mind-blowing, dramatic Barolo from Cavallotto. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2034."
