ROBERT PARKER 90 POINTS - “The 2010 Salia, a blend of 49% Syrah, 30% Garnacha Tintorera and 21% Garnacha Tinta, was aged 11 months in French and American oak, Read More...
and was bottled unfined and unfiltered. This beautiful, dense purple-colored 2010 exhibits a meaty note of beef blood intermixed with attractive, round, supple black fruits, bouquet garni and licorice. Full-bodied, rich, distinctive and complex with a heady finish, its Syrah component no doubt provides the beefy character. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.”

Victor de la Serna has spent his career as a journalist writing about food & wine for El Mundo newspaper in Madrid—he is one of the foremost wine-critics in Spain. In 1988 he followed a dream buying land in a high altitude area of Manchuela, a little known area east of La Mancha. De la Serna was particularly fascinated about the potential of Syrah in Mancheula and he imported top-quality cuttings from France. The Syrah at the core of “Salia” has the aromatic intensity of the best French Syrahs—black pepper, smoked meats, sage, sweet tobacco leaf and blue plum. With an elevation of 3,400 feet on the estate, the coolness of the mountain shows through. The wine gains added ripeness and a more identifiably “Spanish” flavor profile on the mid-palate thanks to healthy amounts of Garnacha in the blend. We were fascinated when we tried the wine . . . very different, very savory and totally delicious.
