sparkling wines. In fact it was the only Italian sparkler on the wine list of the Titanic. Its “For England” designation harkens back to the 1800s when the English led the way in demanding dry finished bubbly. The grapes for this rosé are all Pinot Noir, grown on limestone soils and re-fermented in the bottle. It is aged on the lées for four years before being riddled by hand and disgorged all with the aim of producing a silken texture, a fine bead and a gentle, deep mousse. The palate is a mix of red and blue fruit with raspberry and strawberry comfit blending with notes of acacia, marzipan and delicate touches of ginger. We recently found out than one of Piedmont’s most quality obsessed winemakers, Giorgio Rivetti from La Spinetta, took over the winemaking and soon thereafter purchased the property. It’s easy to see why Giorgio was so enthusiastic about acquiring this historic winery--the textures and depth of flavor here are a sure bet to make your Thanksgiving one for the ages.
