LORING 2012 PINOT NOIR SANTA LUCIA HIGHLANDS 750mL

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 91-93 POINTS - "This was an impressive (and large) lineup of wines. Made by the brother/sister pair, Brian and Kimberly Loring, with Rachel Silkowski functioning as assistant winemaker, these efforts never lack for fruit or texture and, for the most part, reward immediate gratification. Having said that, I think these 2011s will offer a relatively broad drink window. The 2012s are more rich and voluptuous, with the purity of fruit and seamlessness of the vintage.

The entry level 2012 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands is a great example and offers up fantastic purity, loads of black and blue fruits, crushed flowers and even background meatiness to go with a seamless, voluptuous, yet also focused mouthfeel. It’s impressive and should represent a smoking value. Drink 2014-2020."

While in college, Brian Loring worked at a wine shop in Hollywood. His first experiences with Pinot Noir were from producers like Domaine Dujac, Henri Jayer, and DRC. It is hard to settle for wines of lesser quality once you start with the best; Brian was less interested by other Pinot Noirs that he tasted. It wasn’t until he literally stumbled into Calera (he tripped over a case of their wine) that he fell in love with California Pinot Noir.

A few years later, Brian was (unknowingly) on his way towards becoming one of the most highly sought after Pinot Noir producers in California. His wines have garnered favorable scores and numerous accolades from the critics. They are small production, high quality wines that sell out faster and faster every year. His mastery of this grape has become so well known in the “inner circles” that he now makes the wines for a few other labels, as well.
