Picpoul (translation: “lip-stinger”) is a white grape grown in the Rhone and southern France, where it is made into lovely dry whites, the best coming from the designation Picpoul de Pinet in Languedoc. Picpoul makes crisp, dry whites with lovely aromatics, and medium body. Picpoul whites are great on a warm day, and with oysters and suchlike
And for the very first vintage of this special cuvée, she has
immersed four neutral barrels into the Mediterranean
Sea for three months at 46 Feet with a regulated temperature
of 48 F. The constant movement of the sea is doing
the “Batonnage”, (racking) and the result is amazing in
complexity: peers, white flowers, citrus notes with hints of
spices and a creamy texture.
For almost 20 years they sold their viticultural production to the local Coop.
In 1999, when their young daughter Julie returned to the Domaine,
they bottled part of their production for the first time. At Julie’s insistence,
the Benau’s have set their sights on putting only the highest quality wines
in bottle.
