KRUG 98 BT
WINE SPECTATOR 98 POINTS-"This harmonious Champagne offers luxurious texture and powerful, focused acidity, showing aromatic accents of spring blossom, crushed thyme and chai, with rich notes of lemon meringue, hazelnut, black currant and fresh porcini mushroom. The full package. Impressive. Drink now through 2028."CHAMPAGNE GUIDE Rating: *** (Three out of three stars)-" Eric Lebel, Krug's chef de cave, describes 1998 as “a difficult year,” due to alternating periods of intense heat and constant rain. Nevertheless, Krug’s 1998 is a classic, showing a richly complex array of toasty, nutty, brioche-like aromas, anchored by citrus notes of orange and tangerine. It expands on the palate with a creamy, velvety opulence, broadly mouthfilling in aroma but with excellent acidity and structure to keep it feeling kinetic and lively. The balance is impeccable, combining richness with poise, its harmony of components making it feel all the more vivid and vibrant as it persists on the finish in subtle, shifting fragrance. Overall it feels less brooding than the 1996, and lighter on its feet and more gracefully balanced than the 1995. It has continued to gain in depth with time, and today it feels controlled and refined, with all components perfectly in place. Last tasted: 12/11"
