ALEXANDER JULES AMONT 500ML

Officially it can only be categorized as an Amontillado, but Manzanilla Amontillada would have been more correct. In any case it spent around 5 years maturing as a Manzanilla (under flor). Read More...
It then received a further fortification (which kills the flor) and matured another 5 years in the oxidative way. Alexander Jules stresses the minimal processing of the wine (fining, filtering, stabilizing, etc.). The wines are essentially bottled en rama, with just a cellulose plate filtration at time of saca and a 1 micron filtration at time of bottling. None of the wines are fined, cold stabilized or exposed to active carbon.
Nose: rather soft and feminine. Still close to a Manzanilla Pasada, with chamomile and baker’s yeast. Subtle hints of bacon fat and stables. Dried porcini. Sweeter toffee notes too, even subtle pastry notes. Whiffs of yellow flowers and orange peel. On the nose it doesn’t have the tangy profile or the nuttiness of a true Amontillado.
Mouth: more Amontillado elements now, but again quite subtle, with an emphasis on elegance. There’s a pleasant acidity of lemons and oranges. No sharpness whatsoever, but the subdued acidity is very prominent. Soft hints of toffee and a gentle zesty bitterness. Evolves on briny notes with just a hint of apples in the finish.

in either of the two coastal towns. This Fino was matured at Bodega Los Arcos, Lustau's main facility. The building, constructed in 1862, sits at N° 53 Calle de los Arcos in the geographic center of town. The wine was drawn from two butts out of a solera of 708 and was bottled without filtration. of flor and imbues the wines with their signature salty character. This Manzanilla was aged at a bodega facing La Calzada beach on the banks of the river. It was drawn from two butts out of a solera of 135 and was bottled without filtration. This is a snappy, lissome wine that is
almost overwhelmingly saline and positively begs for the shellfish of Sanlúcar.

is an incredible amount of work compared with fermenting tens of thousands of kilos of grapes (or even more) in a big stainless steel tank. This method was the norm of yesteryear, but is so labor intense that it was discontinued in most wineries, and gives a big diversity of wines, as each barrel has its own character, which contributes to the complexity of the blend. Furthermore, the bottled wine is on average 8 to 10 years old. One other thing that makes it apart from other Finos is that the grapes are exclusively from the high part of the Macharnudo vineyard, so this is a single-vineyard Fino. The nose is very complex, showing the effect of the long lees contact: chalk, dried hay, aromatic herbs and salty almonds. The palate is full, but at the same time elegant and balanced, powerful and fine, with the texture of a Meursault rather than a Puligny. A very complex wine, that manages to be both powerful and elegant. Inocente is great value for money. Drink 2013-2016."

WINE & SPIRITS 93 POINTS - "Top 100 Best Buys of 2011* Imagine the juice of salted almonds and you'll have an idea of the flavor of this complex Fino. That almond flavor is seasoned with sea salt notes and moderated by firm acidity that refrehses the substantial weight of the wine, while smoky aromas give it an extra touch of complexity. Inocente is a single vineyard within the famed pago Macharundo; before spending eight years under flor, it was fermented in barrels, a traditional practice now rare in Jerez.

and Amontillado Tio Diego. It was traditionally aged in the Calle Ponce (Ponce Street), and if has kept the C.P. initials since then. It’s not age-certified, but the average age of the bottled wine is 25 years. The color is old gold or light amber, and the nose hints at a relatively old wine, with plenty of lactic notes, sweet vanilla, iodine, bitter oranges and spices. The palate is clean and delineated, subtle and on the elegant side of Palo Cortado, ending very dry. Drink 2013-2016. 8/13"
