JONATA 2011 PROPRIETARY RED "TODOS" SANTA BARBARA COUNTY 750mL

Owned by Stanly Kroenke, the same gentleman that owns Screaming Eagle, Jonata has catapulted itself to the forefront of Santa Barbara County winemaking! Their vineyards are sustainably farmed, the wines routinely received high scores from the critics, and it was their “Todos” blend that really struck a chord with us this year! “Todos” translates to everything, and no, Jonata didn’t just blend every single barrel of the leftovers. There were fantastic barrels of Cabernet, Syrah, Merlot, etc., so winemaker Matt Dees did blending trials with specific quantities of each varietal, and for the past few years, Todos has been an incredible wine for the money! It has earned 93 points from Wine Advocate and is a great way for consumers to sample the “house style” at a fraction of the price of the top bottlings.

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "This was an incredible tasting with winemaker Matt Dees. This estate continues to produce some of the most impressive, long-lived wines in Santa Barbara. As I’ve learned from past tasting, it’s always best to schedule this appointment at the end of the day as these effort have no shortage of tannin and can wreak havoc on one’s palate. While I’ve routinely tasted the La Sangre de Jonata for a number of years now, it was great to be able to go back through past vintages of this estate’s other wines. In addition to these efforts bottled under the Jonata label, I was also able to taste their The Hilt and The Pairing releases, both of which are also reviewed in this report (and highly recommended).

More medium to full-bodied, with fantastic purity and complexity, the 2011 Todos delivers classic blackberry, violets, underbrush and liquid flower aromas and flavors as well as awesome purity, integrated acidity and sweet tannin. More approachable and lively than the 2010, it will have upwards of a decade of longevity. Drink now-2021."

ANTONIO GALLONI 92 POINTS - "Producing consistently great wines often comes down to knowing when and how to make small adjustments. Few do it better than Matt Dees at Jonata. Over the last few years, Dees has put together a seriously impressive range of wines here. The 2011s and 2012s go from strength to strength. All of that is especially impressive considering Jonata has come a very long way. Some years back, a well-known French winemaker was asked what he thought would grow well on the property. The answer? Asparagus.

"The 2011 Todos jumps from the glass with juicy, dark red cherry, plum, smoke and spice notes. Racy and exuberant to the core, the 2011 shows off all of its depth and pure nuance in style. The juicy, supple finish makes the 2011 an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next handful of years, perhaps beyond. Once again, the entry-level Todos is magnificent, especially considering its relatively accessible price."
