was a red wine made during the Winter months with wilted grapes; it was very difficult to get, at least in large quantities and was produced in the hills around Verona. It is remarkable that after so many centuries this wine is still produced with the same technique and the same care.

Colour very intense purple red. Bouquet typical of dried fruit with scent of violet. Flavours are slightly sweet with; the balance between tannin, sugar and acidity exalts the scent of dried fruit which persists long in the palate.

This dessert wine is particularly suited for cakes and pies: "pasta frolla", "Sbrisolona" (typical of Valpolicella), Cantucci, bitter chocolate; in Verona it is traditionally served with "Pandoro"

Aia Vecchia is the name of an old building which is today the centre of a company deep in the Tuscany countryside between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci. This is an area where the particularly favorable microclimate and ideally suited soils make possible the production of very high quality wines. The particular position gives the vines very much light, both direct sunlight as sunlight reflected by the sea. This in general allows an early harvest.

The property consists of 69 hectares of open ground: 48 are vineyards, 30 of which are under the Bolgheri DOC. The planted varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are used to produce Lagone and Sor Ugo. The Morellino di Scansano is produced in the estate of Magliano in Toscana (Grosseto) which consists of 10 hectares planted with Sangiovese and Merlot grape varieties.

Both properties are owned by the Pellegrini family, grape growers in the area for several generations.

important food and wine publication, rated Allegrini a Star winery with over ten Tre Bicchieri ("Three Glasses"-- their top recognition) awards. Palazzo Della Torre is a “Cru” wine coming from a single vineyard and is known as their “Baby Amarone.” The blend of 70% Corvina, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese takes two different paths. Thirty percent of the grapes are left to dry on racks till December, in true Amarone style, and the other seventy percent vinified immediately. The fresh wine is blended with the juice from the dried grapes for a second fermentation and the end result is an absolute sexy wine, deep in ruby red color, with flavors of blackberries and mocha.

fermenting in March. The new more expensive approach is to ferment the young wine together with dried grapes in the January following the vintage, giving the wine more body and depth. This blend of modern and traditional winemaking produces a wine with a combination of freshness, structure and depth that is fairly unique among Ripassos. Following fermentation, the wine is aged just over a year in a mixture of large and small French oak barrels. The Back Story: AZ wines are selected and designed by a group of Brooklyn wine lovers who wanted to import delicious and stylish Italian wines to share with their friends. Ripasso offers a lot of the wonderfully ripe flavors of the Amarone at a much lower price without sacrificing the process that make a Ripasso a Ripasso: a process that is actually quite special and rewarding.

TASTING NOTES - Rich cured meats, red fruit liqueur, caramelized brown sugar and sultry earth tones make for a nice complex nose. The palate is loaded with raspberry in multiple permutations-- this is ripe and juicy yet not overly sweet as it finishes almost off-dry as notes of vanilla bean and framboise echo on the palate for minutes.

over over his uncle's Valpolicella estate-with its prized old vineyards in the heart of the Classico zone-in the mid-1980's. By the late nineties, his style had matured, and his wines had become world-famous for their incredible intensity of fruit. The key, , is not only the age of his vines but the fact that they are nearly all naturally low-yielding ancient clones: Corvinone (40%), Corvina Grossa (25%) and Rondinella (20%).Tommaso's first goal every year is to make the best Amarone Classico possible.
