Rosso’s from Montalcino are, in essence, “baby” Brunello. If you’ve always been enamored with wine from Montalcino, Uccelliera has to be one of the benchmarks. The wine is 100% Sangiovese, Read More...
but we’re talking about a different clone than what is used in Chianti. Here we get a wine that has more of everything and by that I mean breadth and amplification when compared to Chianti Classico (which is why Chianti producers make a Riserva). With Uccelliera’s it’s an unadulterated love affair. It’s fresh, rich, and powerful, but being a Rosso di Montalcino, just plain easy to drink!

A thick layer of dirt is laid, covering the cobblestones in the center of the piazza, the riders are bareback, circling the crowd that form the inner ring of the track, and the winning rider and horse both are invited to the Vatican, and blessed by the pope. (If a rider is thrown off during the race, the horse may continue, and would be declared winner if it were to finish first!)
The wine is of "Super Tuscan" varieties, merlot/sangiovese/cab, created by renouned Tuscan producer San Felice, it is served at banquets throughout the festival.

Born out of a desire to revive ancient viticultural traditions, Tenuta San Francesco was established in 2004 and is set in the ancient Di Palma family estate, situated in the “green heart” of the breathtaking Amalfi Coast. Under the guidance of Avellino oenologist Carmine Valentino, the tenuta produces wines using estate-grown grapes from three local historical families - Bove, d’Avino, and Giodano - who were determined to save the last pre-phylloxera vines, well over 100 years old, found in the mountainous Tramonti area.
San Francesco’s vineyards extend over seven hectares situated along steep-sloped terraced lands, rising 300 - 500 metres above sea level and characterized by high density plantings of indigenous grape varietals. Of the seven hectares, four are planted with one hundred year old vines of tintore and piedirosso, while two and half are cultivated with falanghina, biancolella, and peppella. The remaining land is dedicated to a genetic selection of aglianico and piedirosso.

in a very representative expression of this site. This is a gorgeous, poised Nebbiolo with wonderful mid-palate sweetness and fabulous overall balance. A clean, saline finish gives the wine its focus and proportion on the finish. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019."
According to Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar, Nov/Oct 11: "Moderately saturated medium red. Reserved aromas of crushed redcurrant, cherry, mint and licorice complicated by leather and underbrush. Juicy and intense, with excellent acidity lending freshness and verve to the sweet red fruit flavors. Really spreads out on the back end. This very young nebbiolo is structured to age and may merit an outstanding rating with four or five years in the cellar. This was raised in all used tonneaux 'to privilege the fruit."

learned everything she knows about agriculture, viticulture and vinification from her father; her work in the vineyards therefore leans less on philosophy and more on tradition. No an exaggeration; Dora takes care of 100% of the vine maintenance, meaning she works the soil, prunes and ties every vine of her 3.5 hectare estate by herself. There are no herbicides or pesticides used here.

elegant and restrained than the prototypical Super Tuscans we’re used to from Bolgheri. Consequently, his wines have garnered the praise and attention of some of the Italian wine world’s most discriminating connoisseurs and press (Matt Kramer comes to mind). The 2010 Bolgheri Rosso is Satta’s calling card—a deliciously satisfying blend of Cabernet, Sangiovese, Merlot, Teroldego, and Syrah that is hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts before spending twelve months in old French oak, ultimately bottled unfiltered. The resulting wine is smooth, complex, and indicative of great finesse and breed. One of the best Bolgheri has to offer, a steal at $18.98.

is a restaurant inspired by the culture and cuisine of Friuli Venezia-Giulia, Italy. We work with three of the best vineyards for Pinot Grigio in Friuli. The first vineyard is on the rolling banks of the Isonzo River, the second is in the hills of the Collio and the third is in the hills of the Collio Orientali del Friuli. Our grapes are planted in cooler sites resulting in a wine of balanced acidity and alcohol. The wine shows that Pinot Grigio can be light and dry with veins of minerality and floral aromatics.
Aromatics: Aromas of white flowers, stone fruits such as apricots and peach and hints of minerality.
Palate: On the palate, the wine is crisp and dry with medium high acidity and tastes of stone fruits, lavender, honey, pear, white flowers and minerals.

to the famous and old city of Bernkastel-Kues. The village’s landmark is the mighty castle “Schloss Lieser”, built in 1875 and inhabited by the Baron of Schorlemer. In the year 1904 the winery of SCHLOSS LIESER was constructed and it went on to produce some of the greatest wines of the Mosel region. Unfortunately the estate was sold in the 1970s and due to that several changes of ownership led to a decline in quality.
Shortly before the harvest of 1992 THOMAS HAAG became the general manager and cellarmaster and had to face an estate in bad repair and with no established clientele or store of bottled wine.
After buying the estate in 1997 THOMAS HAAG used his long lasting experiences including learning at the establishment of his father Fritz Haag such as at the wine university in Geisenheim. These experiences plus years of hard work brought the estate of Schloss Lieser back to the top of the Riesling estates in Germany.

above the glass with a perfume of dried violets and roses mixed with incense and sweet earth. The Secastilla vineyard is truly a special site with 100 year old vines growing on extremely rocky slopes at over 3,000 feet of elevation. Known for their Tio Pepe Sherry and Beronia Rioja, the Gonzalez Byass family are among the elite of the Spanish wine world. The pictures included here show you why the family was drawn to this remote site in the foothills of the Pyrenees for this new project.
The Secastilla is quite rare with only about 100 6pks imported to the United States. There is plenty of raspberry, kirsch, and red plum fruit here, but the outstanding feature is the texture and finesse of the wine. The 2005 vintage is the current release, not a warehousing fluke. The long aging time has made for a seamless and satiny mix of flavors ranging from beautiful red fruit passing through waves of pot-pourri, cedar, Asian spices, sweet earth, and fine minerality. This is not a “Cab Drinkers” Grenache and is medium-bodied by design, but lovers of classic European winemaking will find lots to enjoy here.
