held every year on the first Saturday of November, are the opportunity for the brewer to devise a new recipe. This one-off impressed B. United International Inc.'s boss so much that he asked for it to be brewed again just for you lot across the Pond. It is brewed using a combination of 6 aroma hop varieties, which give it a moderate bitterness and a complex bouquet evolving over time. Yes, because Cuvee Du 7eme will improve over time, should you stash it away in a cellar. Try it with sushi, seafood or marine fish dishes. It'll work well too with caramelised fruit pastry such as a tarte tatin The beers of the Brasserie Des Franches-Montagnes are flavorful top-fermenting beers, brewed according to ancestral accounts of master craftsmen brewers. Double Fermented before bottling, they are unfiltered and unpasteurized to preserve their flavors and smoothness. They can be enjoyed before, during and after a good meal. To serve them, tilt the glass and pour delicately, while allowing a nice foam collar ensuring a good release of the flavors. The ideal temperature of serving is between 6 and 8°C.

only in 5 gallon batches, until the two brothers, students at the time, purchased a small, defunct brewery and started producing enough to sell Oerbier is brewed from no less than 6 malts. Poperinge Golding hops in flowers and a special yeast which makes it a little tart, especially with aging. The brewery ages the beer in underground cellars that maintain a natural temperature of 8 degrees Celsius (46 degrees Fahrenheit). In this environment, the beer is allowed to slowly mature into its complex and delicious character. After a few years, the slight tartness grows and begins to give the beer a vinous, wine like flavor. Oerbier is naturally bottle conditioned- it contains yeast in the bottle that provide the carbonation, additional flavor, and vitamin content. The motto NAT en STRAF on the glasses means WET and STRONG, a warning of the 9% alcohol content by volume. The little person on the glasses and bottles is the Oerbier man, a simple creature who holds a brewers fork in his right hand, symbolizing the work and science, but looking to the other side, the result of all this, the glass of (Oer)beer. In the year 2000, the yeast strain changed in oerbier, and resulted in a beer that was much sweeter and less acidic. Over the next several years, the brewers developed their own yeast strain, so they could return that well loved acidity to the beer, and so that it would age with much higher complexity. If you can find some of the older vintages, you can compare the different flavors! The Oerbier available now has returned to the old, more complex flavor, and has brought back the flavors that caused so many beer aficionados to fall in love with it in the first place. 9% Alcohol by Volume

330ml bottles; 750ml bottles The hoppiest and some say the very best beer of Belgium. The De Ranke brewery was founded by two good friends, Nino Bacelle and Guido Devos. Their story is a classic in Belgium, where the very best craft brewing usually begins as a passionately pursued hobby, not an occupation. For Nino and Guido, brewing is literally a weekend obsession. For a few hours on Friday and Saturday, every week, the marvelous turn-of-the-century Deca Brewery in West Flanders is turned over to the De Ranke brewers, who make small batches of what many consider the best specialty beers of Belgium. Their beers are robust and flavorful, and famous for their massive hoppiness. XX Bitter is a very weighty beer, aggressively brewed to be the hoppiest in Belgium. Some more delicate palates are put off right away. Those warriors who accept the challenge, and take time to sort through the barrage of sensory impressions, usually end up loving it. It is first of all remarkably hoppy – and it persists in its hoppiness unto the bitter end – but it does not want for balancing maltiness. In the middle is a “barnyard” Brettanomyces yeast character that is very reminiscent of Orval in its heyday. You might say this beer is Orval with everything turned up to 11, which is exactly what the brewers were seeking.
