were used to achieve complexity and balance. Of key importance was picking the grapes before the natural acidity was lost. The wines spend a further 2 months on fine lees to gain texture and complexity. The resultant wine is a joy to taste: lush, lean and sexy, balanced and beautiful, athletic and gorgeous.

The nose is filled with fruit and florals: lychee, mixed stonefruits, fields of wildflowers, orange blossom. A streak of river water minerality courses throughout. The palate swells with lush viscosity that is cleaned up by acidity, uplifted and brightened. Tastes of white peach, nectarine, apricot and lychee merge with sea salt and nougat on the midpalate. Hints of hazelnut, orange pith and mandarin orange reverberate as the finish lasts and lasts. This is 100% Garnatxa Blanca (white Grenache) that is perfect for the Dog Days of summer: it's very tasty, quite refreshing and drinks way out of its niveau!

s most sought-after producers, Curt decided to go his own way. The wines he puts under the Sans Liege label have received lofty praise from other winemakers and consumers, and his Groundwork label is on the way to becoming one of the best values in California's Central Coast! This bottling of Grenache Blanc comes from a variety of vineyards in Paso Robles to increase complexity.

Vibrant and cool, the 2012 Groundwork Grenache Blanc is like a English garden impossibly fully bloomed in winter. A fresh nose of tangerine, lemon grass, Bosch pear, white cherry and passion fruit leads to a brightly spiced, mineral laden palate of fresh thyme, star anise, orange blossom, wet flagstone and lemon oil, it finishes with pleasantly trill acidity much like nibbling a meyer lemon.

Curt decided to go his own way. He has rapidly made a name for himself within the "Cal-Rhone Community" as one of the hot new producers of Syrahs, Grenaches, Viognier, and blends. His "Groundwork" lineup represents one heck of a value, and the Sans Liege wines really showcase his abilities. Fermented in a combination of new and neutral oak barrels, this is a blend of 70% Grenache Blanc and 30% Roussanne from Alta Colina Vineyard, and the wine displays much of what makes the Alta Colina vineyard a mesmerizing site.

Curt's Tasting Notes: "Along the craggy coast there stands a lighthouse, seemingly carved from air, on a lush prominence. While the ocean scrapes the shore, seeking to steal the beacon, the land is slowly covered entire with white flowers and sunlight. On those first Spring days, the lighthouse keeper - his spirit renewed after months of bone cold - begins to prepare a luxurious breakfast, the scents of belgian waffle, meyer lemon, warm apple compote and clove mist mingle with the the awakening herbs and flowers: jasmine, young limes, sage and wintergreen. The sea continues to rise and yell, spitting spray onto the rocks and releasing heaps of soft chalk from the earth, while the keeper cautiously munches on brioche."
