Citrus blossom accents add lift to the nose and palate. There's nice weight here, balanced by tangy acidity, leading toward an unctuous finish. This versatile white wine makes a charming aperitif, but it really shines at the dinner table.

to the local co-operative and decide to make his own wine. Right from the start he turned out as one of the best producers in the Pfalz and one of the best Pinot Noir producers in Germany. 60% of his production is Pinot Noir which is grown primarily on stony, chalky soil on the Alsatian side of the border and his wines are made, according to his comments ‘by instinct’.
Nice pinkish color, floral nose of strawberry, apricot and green apple fruit aromas. Bracing acidity and stony freshness, delicate but persistent. This Rose? is a selection of ripe red grapes from different sites and Soils. Mainly Pinot Noir and Portugieser but as well some Cabernet Grapes.

piquant and elegant on the palate this is a rich, sweet and salty, stimulating Riesling with a sensual fruitiness and a piquant length. Lovely to drink now and over the next 20 years."

John Gilman - View from the Cellar - "The 2013 Dönnhoff Brücke Spätlese is pure magic in the making. The brilliantly complex nose soars from the glass in a blaze of pears, white cherries, pink grapefruit, clementines, stunningly complex minerality, perhaps a whisper of petrol, bee pollen and spring flowers. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, pure and beautifully reserved in profile, with a great core, stunning filigree, racy acids, laser-like focus and simply stunning length and grip on the electric finish. This is the best vintage of Brücke Spätlese since the twin gems of 2011 and 2007. Really a beautiful wine in the making. 2018-2040."

All this fruit hails from the Keiselberg vineyard, which according to Herr Dönnhoff lies right in the middle of the transition of the volcanic soils found in Schlossböckelheim and the slate of Oberhäusen and Niederhäusen, so it is a mix of slate, gravel and volcanic soils. The 2014 version comes in at ten percent alcohol and thirty grams per liter of residual sugar and offers up a really vibrant bouquet of apple, white cherries, a touch of wild yeasts, smoky overtones, spring flowers and a nice base of complex soil tones. On the palate the wine is medium-full, bright and juicy, with a good core, just a touch of sweetness, bright acids and fine focus and grip on the long, bouncy and vibrant finish. Good everyday juice. 2015-2025."

my visit and was a bit out of sorts as a result. The nose is open and juicy at the present time, offering up scents of apple, peach, lovely soil tones, a touch of beeswax and a topnote of citrus blossoms. On the palate the wine is medium-full, accessible and succulent on the attack, with a nice core of fruit, good complexity and a slightly pinched finish at the present time, from the very, very recent bottling. I am sure this will be very tasty, but it was not entirely on form at the time of my visit. 2015-2025."

as the final blend was not yet completed. Part one hails from the best section of the vineyard and has just a whisper of botrytis, as it offers up a smoky bouquet of lime zest, grapefruit, wild yeasts, slate and tart orange. This has only 2.5 grams per liter of residual sugar, but the acids are perfectly buffered by dry extract, and the wine is full, quite structured and racy. Part two is a bit higher in residual sugar, at 5.5 grams per liter, and offers up strikingly beautiful and pure fruit tones as it central pillar. This is the most seamless and longest of the three parts on the palate, with great purity and precision. Part three, which will only be partially used for the GG blend, has 15 grams per liter of residual sugar and is very vibrant, smoky and floral in personality, with great length and grip and gives an impression of being far drier than its 15 grams per liter, as the acids and extract simply devour the impression of residual sweetness on the palate. The approximate blend of the three that Frank Schönleber put together for us showed a wine of immense potential and should come in between points when it is finally blended, and should drink well from 2018-2050."

with raisin aromas accented by springtime spiciness plus herb and slate nuances. This is an extremely sappy and piquant Ode to the Kabinett predicate. With its low alcohol level at 10% and a judicious measure of residual sugar that doesn't make it too sweet but leaves it dry and mineral enough to let you quaff a bottle on your own in less that 30 minutes, you bet! The wine will age for more than a decade. A must buy.

Created in 1911 by a split of family vineyards, this estate has built its stellar reputation on the strength of its long-lived Rieslings. First under the direction of Johann Josef Prum, and followed by subsequent generations, the winery is now maintained by Dr. Manfred Prum. The 33 acres of estate vineyards on the steep, rocky slopes of the middle Mosel produce 13,000 cases annually, running the full spectrum of the Pradikat. These vineyards boast 70% original rootstock, and low-yielding old vines. The resulting wines are known for their full-flavored fruit, spiciness, and slow development, which greatly rewards patient cellaring.

WINE ADVOCATE - 93 POINTS
The 2013 Riesling RR is sourced from the Westhofen Kirchspiel, but the label keeps a mystery about the origin since A) Read More...
the VDP did not allow off-dry wines from Grosse Lage sites until this rule was canceled again last year; B) the wine is sourced from a small parcel on Rotliegendes whose grapes are not being chosen for the dry Grosses Gewächs because Keller believes the iron rich soil is better for a Riesling with some grams of residual sugar above the trocken border of 9 grams per liter. The wine fermented in an oak barrel that is placed closer to the cellar's entrance, where permanent air streams protect the wine from fermenting to dry, says Keller. The bouquet indicates a clear, full, fresh and mineral aroma with herbal notes along with ripe apple and tropical flavors plus tobacco leaves. The wine is full-bodied, juicy and piquant on the palate, reveals a sweet, Eiswein quoting fruit concentration and shows more power and grip, but less sweetness, than the more ludic Hipping (the Kirchspiel has 12% of alcohol and 15 grams of residual sugar). The long and silky finish bears a lot of tension and makes this a serious wine for the next 20 or more years.

Many things have been and will be said about Klaus Peter Keller. His Grosses Gewächs wines are among Germany's finest and also his delicate Riesling Prädikatsweine from Nierstein and Westhofen are unrivaled in terms of finesse and their filigreed structure in the Rheinhessen. From the 2013 vintage, Keller bottled a quintet of world-class sweet wines that demonstrate impressively which type of sweet wine he must adore the most: the Saar Rieslings from Egon Müller and the Ruwer Rieslings from Maximin Grünhaus. Well, Keller's wines are from limestone and iron-rich Rotliegend soils, so they are quite different. But don't expect super-sweet and rich and oily textured wines here. Think of electricity in the form of wine and of fully ripe and absolutely healthy grapes processed with the goal to bottle extremely drinkable and finesse-full wines from Riesling as well as from Scheurebe.

minute to minute gaining more and more complex. Unusually pure and mineral on the nose, the "Hubi" 2013 offers rather green flavors of limes, herbs, peas, tobacco, and morels along with just a hint of pie-plant. Full-bodied, intense, piquant and penetrating mineral makes this 2013 one of, if not the most, impressive Hubackers Keller ever produced. The combination of finesse and elegance with power and persistence is really fascinating here.

Klaus Peter and Julia Keller are the superstars of dry Riesling in Germany. Their wines are sold out six months before they are bottled. Except of Hubacker and Kirchspiel you can only purchase the Grosses Gewächs Rieslings and the mysterious G-Max Riesling in a mixed box. "That's to protect our longtime clients," Klaus Peter seriously explains. He is like that and logically has rejected several offers to sell his estate. "It's great fun to produce great Rieslings on limestone soils here in Rheinhessen. I would never sell our enjoyment not only because it is priceless. I have already recently begun and there are two sons who are highly interested in what we do." Keller loves the adventure. He loves difficult vintages such as 2013 and 2014 and he is looking forward to picking ripe grapes for the first time for a Kabinett from the granite rocks in Kristiansand, Norway.

Peter Keller. In 2014, this wine finished up at 11.5 percent alcohol and eight grams per liter of acidity. The yields were very low this year for this wine and it has ended up with a rock solid core as a result, with the bouquet a fine, youthful blend of grapefruit, tart orange, petrol, chalky soil tones, lemon peel and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is pure, fullish and quite deep, with lovely, nascent complexity, ripe, snappy acids and superb length and grip on the focused and serious finish. As Klaus-Peter noted, “perhaps this is the best basic Riesling we have made.” It deserves a few years in the cellar to start to unfold its secondary layers of complexity and is a great value in 2014. 2017-2030+."
