FRASSINELLO 09 "LE SUGHERE"
The new Rocca di Frassinello winery brings together two of the greatest names from Bordeaux and Tuscany in a partnership based on the sunny Tuscan Coast—Eric de Rothschild of Chateau Lafite and Paolo Panerai from Castellare in Chainti Classico. The first vineyards were first planted in 2000 so the Frassinello Estate is just beginning to show its promise, but wow what a showing in 2009! The “Le Sughere” we’re offering here is both flashy and age-worthy—and since it’s the estate’s “second wine” it’s also a great deal. Wine Spectator ranked the 2009 Rocca di Frassinello “Le Sughere” at number 69 on the annual Top 100 list, while Antonio Galloni from the Wine Advocate gave the same wine 93 points. It is a 50% Sangiovese, 25% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, aged 12 months in French oak, 50% new. Anticipated maturity: 2012 - 2021"
