FONBADET 2011 PAUILLAC

This hilltop estate of 50 acres, considered the equivalent of a 5th Growth by Robert Parker, consists of three different parcels bordering Mouton-Rothschild, Lynch-Bages, Pichon Longueville and Latour. Pretty impressive company! Winemaker Pascale Peyronie thinks of herself as a passionate go-between from land to glass. With her feminine touch, Pascale proudly conveys the family message throughout the world. The nose starts with wild cherries, cassis, mulberries: rich, dark red fruits. A touch of brown spices and minerality lingers. The palate starts almost delcately with soft, silky tannins and more dark red fruits: mixed cherries, from kriek lambic to black cherry, cassis, raspberry compote. Like the veritable iron fist in the velvet glove, this wine, though refined, is taut and lithe with power, acidity, tannins. Earthy minerality comes to the fore in the lengthy finish as the fruit flavors linger.
