FATTORIA DEL CERRO 2010 VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO

ANTONIO GALLONI 92 POINTS - “The 2010 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is laced with iron, smoke, tobacco, black cherries and scorched earth. Firm tannins provide the backbone for this deeply expressive, layered Vino Nobile. Here, too, all the elements are very much in balance."

For less than $20, it’s not easy to get the kind of depth and seriousness offered by Fattoria del Cerro’s Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 2010. The appellation of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano has much in common with the more famous wines of Brunello di Montalcino—both are Sangiovese wines from Tuscan hill-towns blessed with ancient winemaking history and ideal hillside exposures. The biggest difference is in taming the tannins as Vino Nobile often expresses its depth and power with more raw bite. It’s a bit harder to find a great Vino Nobile, but that often makes the hunt more worthwhile as the price tag can be a pleasant surprise when you find one like Fattoria del Cerro. Antonio Galloni awarded the wine 92 points last year when he was reviewing the 2009 vintage for the Wine Advocate, and again, he scored the newly released 2010 Fattoria del Cerro 92 points while writing for his own publication. We are also excited to report the 2010 Vino Nobile won a Tre Bicchieri award from Gamberro Rosso—making it one of the best values of the year in Italy.
