ERIC KENT 2011 CHARDONNAY "SANGIACOMO - GREEN ACRES HILL" SONOMA COAST 750mL

Eric Kent Wine Cellars sources fruit from several quality-oriented vineyards in Sonoma County. Some of the vineyard names are so obscure that even the locals don't know about them, and some of them are world-reknowned. One of these famous sources belongs to the Sangiacomo family.

The Sangiacomo Family is synonymous with high-end Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in Sonoma County, and top producers throughout the county, state, and even one in Canada source their fruit. The Eric Kent block is planted to the Old Wente clone, which is known for low yields and concentrated fruit. Because of low yields, higher acids and naturally intense flavors of the Old Wente clone, this wine does well when nudged toward a fairly full style, with about 40% new oak and regular stirring of the lees.

This bottling is minuscule in production, with only 118 cases produced! The wine begins with aromas of toasted hazelnuts, citrus, chamomile and a yeasty brioche-like note. Full flavors of pear, golden apple, stone fruits and a touch of honey and mineral are supported by wonderful acidity on the long and satisfying finish.

WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS - "Offers a mix of firm, ripe white peach, nectarine and green apple notes, with a dash of honeydew. The flavors fan out, showing some smoke and tannic grip on the finish. Drink now through 2019. 118 cases made."
