The complex nose of roses, blackberries, peppercorn and spices is matched by an equally dense and sophisticated palate of earth and dark fruits. Savory herbs and subtle brown spices harmonize with the fruit and bring liveliness to the sturdy yet full and luscious texture and medium weight of the wine.

This wine is balanced, fresh, rightly tannic, fragrant and lush, leaving a pleasantly bitter aftertaste." A wine for all tables, particularly suited for Italian style appetizers, first courses and fresh cheeses.

WINE ADVOCATE 89
"Ratti's 2011 Dolcetto d'Alba Colombe is super-impressive. A vein of tannin keeps the fruit suspended in a tight-wire act that balances fruit, acidity and minerality beautifully. Blueberries, tar, licorice and melted road tar are all layered into the pure, long finish. The Colombe is a serious Dolcetto with plenty of tannin to pair beautifully with rich foods. This is a striking wine from Pietro Ratti."

It flows with fabulous intensity in its dark jammy fruit, with silky tannins that add support and texture. This is a dazzling wine that impresses for its voluptuous, caressing fruit and big, expansive personality. Unlike some previous vintages, the 2009 is big, but not at all overdone. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2019."

The Dolcetto grape may not be familiar to many, and even ardent fans of Italian wine may have only tasted a few. The 2009 “Siri d’Jermu” bottling from Pecchenino is worth seeking out and will be a pleasure for just about any wine-drinker, not just the geeks. There is a supple, silky quality to the best Dolcettos that will excite many fans of Pinot Noir. The nose is a layered and enticing with scents of dried flowers and incense. The surprise here may be the depth and structure—Pecchenino’s “Siri d’Jermu” is from a steeply sloping vineyard based on limestone soils, providing structure and some heft to support all those pretty qualities up front. Seriously yummy wine.
