Grgic Vina was established in 1996 by legendary Napa Valley winemaker, Croation-born Miljenko "Mike" Grgich, and his daughter, Violet. The winery is just north of the historic walled city Dubrovnik in the southern Dalmatian wine region. Mike started the winery to produce the finest wines from native Dalmatian grapes.

When Mike Grgich came to the Napa Valley in 1958 to make wine, he noticed a remarkable resemblance between the Zinfandel and Plavac Mali of his native Croatia. Some 35 years later, Mike worked with scientists at University of California, Davis to prove that Zinfandel was actually Crljenak Kaštelanski, a grape native to Croatia and parent of Plavac Mali.

and another Croatian red, Dobricic) is the principal red grape variety grown in Croatia. Milos has some of the best vineyard sites on the peninsula -- steep limestone slopes looking down on the Adriatic sea.

The 2008 has a nose of red roses, autumn leaves and mushrooms giving way to rich red and black fruit flavors and well rounded tannins. Frano Milos uses natural yeast fermentation and ages the wine for 12 months in neutral Slavonian oak followed by 24 months bottle aging before release.
