With over 30 years experience in Carneros, (he founded Acacia), he set new standards in both the vineyard and winemaking. The modest price belies these efforts. Mike said that he wanted the oak to be transparent, with a wisp of spice, and he kept the malolactic to 50%. The fruit is all estate and the oak was only 30% new, which most definitely begat the desired result. This bodacious beauty is crisp and multi-tropical, coating the palate with added hints of peach, citrus, lemon crème, spice and vanilla.

a small producer located in Vosne-Romanée, and made by Vincent Mongeard. The Mongeard family has produced wine in Vosne-Romanée since the eighteenth century, and makes “old school” styled, delicately proportioned, graceful Burgundies. Their 2010 Bourgogne (Pinot Noir) is no exception. In fact, this is a great entry-level bottle of Burgundy that would please even the most seasoned wine drinker. Also noteworthy, we are loving wines from the 2010 Burgundy vintage, as they are unbelievably pure and pristine wines that can be enjoyed at first sip.
Mongeard-Mugneret 2010 Bourgogne is garnet hued, and unravels in the glass with a nose of cherry, wild raspberry, a hint of clove and earth. On the palate, its texture is feminine, elegant and feather-light, but still persistent with woodland berry fruit, mineral, and has a silky finish. This wine shines with medium acidity, balance, and has 12.5% alcohol. It is seamless, integrated, full of vigor and cut, and just beautiful wine at an amazing price.

Very few get their hands on these cherished rows, but those that do are rewarded with riches! When we tasted this Broadside Chardonnay, we were blown away by the quality in our glass for the relatively small price of admission! Rich, heady aromas quickly fill the glass showcasing tropical fruits, pineapple, citrus blossoms and marmalade. On the palate, the wine is unctuous, rich and decadent, with lemon oils, marmalade, apple pie and a distinct butter note. He made his first wine in 2000, and went to the “school of hard knocks” to learn how to bring good wine to the consumer’s table, and we in the wine industry have learned that his wines are notable for their taste and value.
The 2010 vintage was a MASSIVE hit, and the 2011 follows suit. This wine is very reminiscent of a few extremely high-demand California Chardonnays that sell for almost twice this price, but if we mentioned those other names, chances are we wouldn’t get an allocation from them again…so you can see why we’re a bit tight-lipped on that. With a light gold color, the aromas are redolent of apple, vanilla, tropical notes, and you guessed it…butter. The aromas follow through to the flavors, were they are joined by pineapple, pears, buttercream, a hint of nuttiness, and lingering acidity for freshness. Rich, round, and full-bodied, this wine has a long, lasting finish that sails on and on.
