a streak of smoky mineral and finely wrought acidity and texture push through on the finish. Drink now."

This non dosed Brut (except the reserve component) was all vinified in secondhand barrels, most of which are old, 228-liter barriques purchased from Chablis. The wines stay in barrel for about six months before being blended and bottled: "The idea is not to mark the wines with the wood," says chef de cave Nicolas Jaeger, "but to give them more structure, more finesse and length." This bottling is a blend of 41 percent chardonnay, 32 percent Pinot Noir and 27 percent Meunier, with 20 percent of the total made up of reserve wines.

It is a favorite of many musicians and has been popping up in celebrity circles and music videos. It is made exclusively from Premier and Grand Cru-rated villages in three different terroirs: Montagne de Reims, Vallée de la Marne and Côte des Blancs. The blend is 40% Chardonnay, 40%, Pinot Noir, and 20% Pinot Meunier. The original de Brignac name was registered by the Cattier family in the late 1940s or early 50s, according to Jean-Jacques Cattier. It was chosen at that time by his mother, who had been reading a novel featuring a character named de Brignac. In naming the new Champagne itself, Cattier states those involved came up with Armand, it sounded kind of noble.

honey and jasmine on the highly perfumed nose. Broad and fleshy on entry, then tighter in the mid-palate, with impressive depth and vivacity to its juicy citrus and pit fruit flavors. Picks up an intense, chalky quality on the finish, which clings with serious tenacity and resonating spiciness. This nervy, bracing Champagne would be fantastic with oysters." - Josh Raynolds (Nov/Oct 2011)

WINERY NOTES-"Made out of the 2002 harvest, this Cuvee Perle Nature is a very exclusive blend of 80% Chardonnay and 20% Pinot Noir... This wine has been aged for over 5 years in our cellars. The real cork used for this long ageing allows the best control of oxydo-reduction and ensures the development of very delicate and complex aromas. It is a very rare practice today in Champagne and the bottle is known for its famous “bague carrée” (square ring)."

harvests Paul has finally turned the winemaking reins over to his very capable daughter Chantale. While not ponderous in the least, Chatale's 2004 showcases Bouzy's terroir beautifully with its juxtaposition of highly focused Pinot Noir fruit with deep-seated minerality. It is 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Chardonnay produced only in the very best years from vines averaging 35 years age.

red cherry and citrus underlined by a stony, savory minerality. It's a step up from the previous two releases, feeling finer in tone than the 2005 and more complex and more harmonious than the 2004, and its finish is particularly impressive, showing a subtle nuance and outstanding length. Last tasted: 2/13."
ANTONIO GALONI 92 POINTS-"The NV (2006) Extra Brut Le Cran is one of the creamier, more oxidative wines of the range, largely because of the six years it spent on its lees. Dried pears, crushed flowers, spices, licorice and almonds meld together gracefully in this effortless, polished Champagne. The 2006 Le Cran is very much a wine of textural volume and breadth. Relative to the other wines in the range, the 2006 Le Cran feels a bit heavy. My sense is that today's wines are a bit more polished. The 2006 is equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot. This bottle was disgorged in January 2013. Dosage was 2 grams per liter."

the village of Ludes. The 2007 is the finest edition yet, feeling densely fragrant and rich in body without being weighty, and carrying itself with an effortless grace and poise. It finishes with long, resonant aromas, demonstrating a subtle complexity and an intense soil signature, and while it’s obviously still a youthful wine, it’s already so expressive and compelling. Last tasted: 9/14."

wines from 2010 and 2009. Antonio Galloni comments: “Warm, rich and resonant, the NV Brut Réserve wraps around the palate with notable grace and class. Almonds, dried pears, rose petals, wild flowers and spices are some of the notes that blossom in the glass. Chalky notes support the expressive, burnished finish. This is a lovely entry-level offering that is given a bit more richness by the generosity of the 2011 vintage... Dosage is 7 grams per liter. 89 Points. (5/14)”

second release of Campania Remensis, after the 2009, but it really has its origins in the Instant Rosé No. 1, which was a one-off cuvée that Bérêche made in 2006. The 2010 is a fine successor to these, and in fact, it ultimately surpasses both of them: it’s unbelievably elegant and lithe, complementing its subtly fragrant fruit with a silky, sophisticated texture, and its delicate flavors unfold on the palate with precision and grace. For all its charms, it’s an exceptionally discreet champagne, and one that’s easily overlooked—spend some time with it, though, and you’ll find a wine of unusual finesse, harmony and expression of place. yellow chalky notes, some lighter floral elements too. The palate is super dry (dosage at 3-4g) and there’s a silky, sherbet-like texture, smooth, fine and long. The citrus flavours give way to the driving surging acidity, thunderous acidity, really driving and powerful. The finish twists very slowly through to light-toasted cashew fruit flavours, but lemon citrus prevails. This is thrilling Champagne. Disgorged 22nd October, 2013. Drink from 2016."

WINERY NOTES -The launch of the 2002 vintage marks 50 years of Bollinger R.D., Madame Bollinger’s great idea which she turned into reality with the 1952 vintage.

60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay drawn from 23 crus: 71% Grands Crus and 29% Premier Crus. More than a decade of cellar maturation on the yeast.

JANCIS ROBINSON - 19 POINTS (19 out of 20)
60% Pinot Noir, 40% Chardonnay. 23 crus of which 71% are Grands Crus and the rest Premiers Crus. Dosage under 4 g/l. Very firm, savoury nose with Bollinger's trademark fungi. Very powerfully so but with excellent acidity and lift on the palate. This is touted as a 50th anniversary offering because the first RD (Recently Disgorged) vintage released on the UK market was the 1952, in 1967 (so it was three years older than this 2002). It was launched at the same time as the 1953 on the French and Swiss markets and the 1955 on the American and Italian markets. A nod to British taste for seriously mature champagne? This wine should not be served too cool. It has real weight - though does not taste heavy. I loved it on first release as Grande Annee and it is less austere now. A bit mellower and more open though still with the deep throat salve sensation on the finish.

black currant, smoky mineral and biscuit, complimented by hints of lemon zest and honey. Lingering finish. Drink now through 2020. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 5,000 cases imported.”

We are excited about this offering because we love nothing more than offering killer deals on great wines. While not as flashy or fashionable as some of its Grandes Marques brethren, Bollinger nevertheless possesses a legion of savvy devotees that is surpassed only by that of Krug’s. As with Krug’s Grand Cuvee, Bollinger’s reputation is anchored by their consistently splendid multi-vintage Brut Special. This is a particularly nice rendition and it is further notable because it is the first release of Special Cuvee packaged in a swanky new bottle patterned after one the company used in the 1840s. Disgorged this past summer, 45% of the blend is from 2008, while 50% is from 2007, with the rest being composed of older vintages aged in magnum.

Jacques Bollinger and Paul-Joseph Renaudin founded Bollinger in 1829. However, it was really the widow (yes, another dynamic Champagne widow) Lilly Bollinger, who guided the firm from 1941 to 1971, that is most responsible for the lofty reputation that the firm enjoys today. By all accounts this grande dame was an indefatigable and astute leader that left no stone unturned in the pursuit of bolstering the excellence of her Champagnes. Ghislain de Montgolfier, a great great grandson of Jacques Bollinger, took charge of the house from 1994 to 2008. Today, Jérôme Philipon is managing director, while Mathieu Kauffmann , who has been with the house since 2001, is Bollinger’s brilliant chef de cave. Bollinger’s 395 acres of vines provide for roughly two-thirds of the house’s needs, which permits greater control over style and quality.

Classic balance typifies this refreshingly soft, yet dry wine. The wine delivers complex apple and pear characteristics accented by citrus spice over notes of almond and caramel in the bouquet. Look for nutty flavors with hints of brioche that build to a refreshingly dry finish.
