COTE MONTPEZAT 2009 COTES CASTILLON COMPOSTEL
WINE SPECTATOR 91-94 POINTS - "Beautiful nose of crushed blueberries and raspberries. Full-bodied, with soft and velvety tannins and lots of pretty fruit. J.S."Château Côte Montpezat is situated in Belvès de Castillon on the appellation of controlled origin Côtes de Castillon. The legends say that those who listen closely to the well of Château Côte Montpezat can hear the pilgrims of Saint Jacques de Compostelle who, when crossing these lands, used to drink here… The old quarters dating from the 17th century were used by pilgrims during their famous walk. Aged from 27 to 30 years, on a clay and limestone earth and fully exposed to the southern sun, the vineyard is 30 hectares in size and composed of 70% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc and 10 % Cabernet Sauvignon. In the nose, dark chocolate meets black tea and spice while red and black plum notes dally in the foreground. The palate starts with soft tannins and an unctuous body as ripe pomegranate and cherry flavors fill out the profile. Taut, sweet and fairly good-sized wine tannic-wise, the finish had nice length and left ruminations of purple fruit and visions of a good future in the cellar.
