JEAN RIJCKAERT 2008 COTES DU JURA "LES SARRES" SAVAGNIN

ROBERT PARKER 94 POINTS - "The rare 2008 Cotes du Jura Les Sarres is slightly more expensive than the $25 cut off price, but it is made from 100% Savagnin. Fermented naturally and bottled after 22 months in used oak, it reveals notes of exotic tropical fruits, white corn, wet gravel and sweet, damp foresty, earthy smells. An amazing white with full-bodied power and richness, it would be impossible to guess this wine in a blind tasting. Consume it over the next 5-7 years.

There are more than a few noteworthy items about this white wine: it's from Jura (an area between Burgundy and Switzerland known for intriguing wines, such as vin jaune), it's made of the Savagnin grape and it earned 94 points from Robert Parker. And its normal price is $31.99, not $24.99. So, from newbie to wine geek illuminati, this has a great chance of grabbing your attention-- and it should.

We love when wines like this fall in our glass, as it's interesting as it is delicious. The Savagnin grape is believed to be related to the Traminer grape (Gewurztraminer is in the same family) and may also be cousin to Viognier.
