WINE ADVOCATE 93 POINTS - "White flowers, lemon, and crushed rocks are some of the notes that emerge from Roederer’s 2006 Blanc de Blancs. The 2006 boasts extraordinary elegance and finesse to match its rich, broad-shouldered personality. At the same time, there is plenty of Chardonnay character. Readers who enjoy wines with more tertiary complexity will want to give the 2006 a few years in the cellar, but it is absolutely striking, even today, for its finesse, balance and total sense of harmony. The Blanc de Blancs remains one of the under the radar jewels in the Roederer lineup. In 2006, it is not to be missed. The Blanc de Blancs is made exclusively from grand cru fruit, mostly Avize, Cramant and Mesnil, aged 20% in oak and bottled with four atmospheres of pressure (on the low side) to pReserve the elegance of the mousse. All of that worked beautifully here. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021."
We have long held that Roederer's Blanc de Blancs is the hidden jewel in the firm's crown and, considering its lofty quality, the best deal in their lineup. Interestingly all of the vintage Champagnes made by this family owned firm are made with 100% estate grown grapes. So it is not too much of a stretch to say that for vintage Champanges like this, Roederer's efforts and thinking really parallel those of a conscientious grower producer. This is crafted with equal amounts of Grand Cru Chardonnay from Avize and Le Mesnil with no malolatic fermentation. An interesting characteristic of this Champagne is that its pressure is set at four atmospheres rater than the usual six, a feature that gives it a caressing quality on the tongue. 20% of the ensemble was fermented in large oak barrels with weekly batonage for further complexity.

There is no denying that pouring a big name Champagne at functions really makes a memorable statement. Bollinger, Krug, Veuve Clicquot and Roederer, for example, all make Champagnes that are synonymous with class and quality. In our judgement, of these prestigious brands, Roederer’s Brut Premier currently offers by far the best quality/price ratio. Brut Premier has always been the embodiment of the rich Louis Roederer house style, one that combines all the fruitiness and freshness of youth with the vinosity of a fully mature wine. It is truly an important yardstick by which all other mutivintage Bruts should be measured.

Neither as austere or pointed as the 1996, nor as open as the 1997, instead the 1999 comes across as big, rich and powerful. The Montagne de Reims village of Bouzy is famed for producing some of Champagne’s grandest, most vinous Pinot Noir based bottlings. Saves along with Jean Vesselle are arguably the stars of the village. Allen Meadows, “The Burghound”, recently inked this praise for their “white label”: “Quite fruity with an airy, even layered quality to the nose with solid depth and plenty of punch and energy to the firm but not aggressive finish that delivers ample length. This is one of those pleasant examples that could be easily approached now because of the complexity the high [75%] percentage of Pinot contributes, yet I would hold this for at least 3 years.” A couple of weeks back we tasted this along side Bollinger’s excellent Brut “Special Cuvee” and found their flavors to be remarkably similar except that the Saves had better structure and a bit more flavor intricacy."

local historians asserting that monks from the abbey at Saint-Hilaire brought this
certain 'pop' to wine in 1531 AD. Closer to home in locale and
temporality, the last inventory of Thomas Jefferson's wine cellar listed 49 bottles of Blanquette de Limoux.
We haven't had a sparkling wine as our "wine of the month" in many years but this was an easy call once Bubblehead introduced it to us. As winter works its way toward spring, this will harmonize beautifully with or without food (brunches to sushi, white meats to fruits and cheeses). Our staff loves this one!
The nose reveled in hints of pastry dough, citrusy notes of tangerine and límon and a touch of peach melba and sea air. The palate is an enchanting mélanage of more citrus , touches of honeysuckle and vanilla bean with a cleansing layer of minerality coursing throughout, like a glacial stream galloping seaward.

has never been less than thrilling. A vivid kaleidoscope of pure Chardonnay aromas and flavors opens up in the glass. The 2002 is at once incredibly rich yet also totally weightless and impeccable in its balance. All the classic Comtes notes are there, but with a level of detail and nuance I don’t think I have ever seen before. The 2002 is breathtakingly beautiful today, but also appears to have the stuffing to age for decades. Personally, I would be looking to buy the 2002 in magnums if at all possible. Sadly, there is little wine to go around as 2002 was a very short crop. Readers who can track down the 2002 are in store for something truly great. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2042."
