PATRICK PIUZE 2012 TERROIR DE CHABLIS

Patrick started his winery in 2008 and has made quite an impact in the last 5 years. He happened to meet Marc Chapoutier when he was 18, which got him involved in the wine-making trade; after a couple years he moved back to Québec and opened a wine bar in the center of Montreal: Le Pinot Noir. But winemaking was calling. He took a backpacking trip in 2000 to Burgundy. He joined Olivier Leflaive and his staff in Puligny-Montrachet for the harvest season and hasn't really looked back, learning from a number of excellent winemakers and making excellent wines himself. This Terroir de Chablis is a great example (as well as a great wine!).

The nose is inviting: notes of bright Spring fruits, peach, apricot, meshed with well water minerality, lemon grass, sweet spice, pineapple and mixed tropical fruits with a touch of lanolin creaminess. The palate is lush, fat and expansive as interstellar space but reined down to a nice orbit thanks to the gravitas of masterful acidity. Mixed fruits flavor the palate with more tropical and stone fruits yet citrus notes almost steal the spotlight (we're looking at you, Meyer lemon and Mandarin orange!). More river rock minerality is paired with subtle brown spices as a long, rich finish is kept lively thanks to that oh-so-nice acidity. Stunning Chablis.
