CADE 2011 CABERNET SAUVIGNON ESTATE HOWELL MOUNTAIN 750mL

ROBERT PARKER'S WINE ADVOCATE 92-95 POINTS - "Danielle Cyrot, formerly of St. Clement, is the new winemaker at Cade beginning in 2012. Things continue to be in a state of evolution at this property, which is part of the Plumpjack group. In 2010 Cade introduces a new Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon made from purchased fruit. This means that now two out of the three Cade wines are made with non-estate grapes, a confusing proposition from a winery that is trying to position itself as a top producer of estate Howell Mountain Cabernets. I am sure that will all be sorted out in the future, but for now, Cade seems to be lacking a little direction, as good as the best wines can be.

Cade’s 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate Howell Mountain is wonderfully alive in the glass. A heady bouquet redolent of smoke, tobacco, sage, French oak, menthol and black currants explodes from this dark, brooding Cabernet Sauvignon. Clean veins of underlying minerality give the 2011 its energy, focus and tension. This is another hugely promising wine, but it is super wound up right now. It will be interesting to see where the 2011 goes over the coming year. Winemaker Tony Biagi adds that there were 20 days above 80 degrees on Howell Mountain in 2011. He fermented 50% of the juice in barrel, a big step up from 2010. There is no doubt that today the 2011 is more promising than the 2010. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2030."
