brooding Barbaresco flows from the glass with waves of ripe dark fruit, menthol, spices, minerals and French oak. The tannins are broad, but the wine has more than enough stuffing to provide balance. This is the freshest and most vibrant of these 2005 Barbarescos, and will accordingly require the most patience, but it is a gem. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."

the Nebbiolo grape under the direction of Gioachino De Forville. The exceptional Loreto “cru” of Barbaresco is the source for this most profound wine of the De Forville estate. As with the Barbaresco “Normale”, the juice is fermented in stainless steel and then racked into large oak “botti” for about two years of aging before being bottled. Vines are approximately 35 years of age (as of 2011). More full-bodied and dense than the “Normale”, the “Loreto” also has additional aging capacity.

is literally the Minuto’s backyard.

Cascina Luisin harvests just one hectare of the clay rich Rabajà. Yielding just around 350 cases per vintage. The wine spends 20 days in cement during primary fermentation then is transferred to large format barrels ranging in size between 20-50 hl. This wine is known for its great elegance and austerity of classic Nebbiolo displaying delicate fruit and age worthy tannins.

1913 marked the inaugural vintage for Luigi Minuto thus forming Cascina Luisin. This set up the Minuto family to become one of the oldest wine making families in Barbaresco. Not only are they one of the oldest, but they were the first to bottle and sell wine on a commercial level in the early 1930s. It is important to remember that unlike other regions in Italy, Piedmont has a very short history with quality wine making. Post WWII gave rise to the quality we have come to expect from the Barbaresco and Barolo. The names Minuto and Gaja are the first brought up when discussing the historical producers who paved the way.

Today Luigi’s great grandson, Luigi, who is now in his 70’s continues on the family winemaking tradition with his son Roberto. Roberto is 7th generation to make wine, the 4th to live under the same roof to which the winery is attached by a small patio that looks out over the Rabajà vineyard. The family philosophy is meticulous vineyard care and they hold great respect for upholding traditional winemaking practices in the winery.

The wines of Cascina Luisin are well known for their accessibility in their youth with great core fruit that holds up well and evolves with age.

Sori Paolin is made exactly the same as Rabajà. Primary fermentation takes place over the course of about 20 days, then the wine is laid to rest in oak for two years.

WINE ADVOCATE 94 POINTS - "A big, extroverted wine, the 2007 Barbaresco Camp Gros continues to develop beautifully. The warmth of the year has given Read More...
the Camp Gros a little more fleshiness and power than is typically the case, but it all works. Layers of sweet, floral-infused fruit flow through to the textured, deeply spiced finish. This is a fabulous showing from Marchesi di Gresy. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027."

"Marchesi di Gresy is one of the most beautiful estates in Piedmont. Nestled mid-slope within the amphitheater-shaped Martinenga vineyard, the winery provides spectacular views of Barbaresco. Martinenga itself spans a cross section of vineyards that starts at Asili on one end and ends at Rabaja on the other. Not bad. Most of the vineyards are planted with the Rose clone of Nebbiolo, which is the main reason the estate’s wines are typically light to medium in body when they are young. With time in the bottle, the Barbareschi often put on weight, although they remain on the ligher side of things. More recently the estate has undertaken a gradual replanting with the goal of introducing more modern clones. I tasted a wide range of wines during my most recent visit, including a number of older vintages. I was quite taken with the 2003 Barbareschi, which have aged very well despite the mixed reputation of the vintage. Among the Barbareschi, I tend to prefer the Camp Gros, which is aged in cask, over the Gaiun (aged in barrique), as the Camp Gros is usually more finessed with bottle age."

meld together in a pliant, expressive Barbaresco that will drink well early. Sweet floral notes, anise and rose petal are laced throughout the finish. Ripe, silky tannins provide the backdrop for a gracious, understated Barbaresco. Better in 2017. (7/ 2014)

ANTONIO GALLONI 90 POINTS- The 2009 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is open, round and inviting. In this vintage, the Pajè is quite floral and open, with fewer of the darker, mentholated, spiced notes that I associate with this site. I expect the 2009 to drink well pretty much right out of the gate. With time in the glass, more Pajè character emerges, but overall, this is a relatively straightforward offering with fine balance but less site-specific character than normal. (10/ 2013)

the 2009 Pora is also quite beautiful in this vintage. Sweet floral and mint notes wrap around the palate in this impeccable, beautifully balanced, mid-weight Barbaresco from the Produttori. The 2009 impresses for its pliancy and generosity. Today, the tannins are a bit four-squared, but there is enough depth in the fruit to make me think the wine will come together a little more fully with more time in bottle. berry and fennel seed. Very pretty length. Drinkable now but better in 2015."

STEPHEN TANZER 91 POINTS - "(as the Produttori has declassified its crus in 2010, there will be 28,000 cases of this blend): Tangy cherry and raspberry aromas are lifted by flowers and mint on the cool, inviting nose. Silky-sweet and floral, with lovely inner-mouth juiciness to its red berry flavors. Owing to the wine's moderate body and flesh, the tannins show a slightly dryness but the long, juicy finish offers enticing floral perfume. A lovely, sharply delineated Barbaresco at a very reasonable price. "
