BURLOTTO 2012 BARBERA D'ALBA

The 2012 Burlotto Barbera D'Alba comes from various vineyards in the village of Verduno on a mixture of calcareous and limestone soils. Its nose is exotic with a beautifully vibrant bouquet of blackberry, cigar box, and freshly tilled Earth. This medium bodied velvety wine finishes with a bright acids and a persistent finish. The Burlotto Barbera d’Alba is a substantial wine that can be consumed young, but will evolve magnificently in the bottle.

Burlotto is a historical winery that goes back to 1850, when G.B. (Giovan Battista) Burlotto founded the winery, in the Piedmontese village of Verduno. Mr. Burlotto’s achievements were only rivaled by Biondi-Santi and Vega-Sicilia, as he gained superstar status in a world dominated by French wines. Among his other achievements, G.B. was the first in the area to bottle his wine (as opposed to distributing by cask) and he also became the official supplier to the Royal House of Savoy, which once ruled Piedmont, as well as becoming “The Only Supplier to the Duke of Abruzzi’s Arctic Expedition to the North Pole.”
