The wonderfully airy and layered nose offers up aromas of earth, wild cherry, raspberry and a hint of stone. There is excellent volume to the solidly well-concentrated medium weight flavors that are at once suave but detailed, all wrapped in a tension-filled, dusty, austere and mouth coating finish of impeccable balance. A classic Clos des Ursules that should reward well 12 to 15 years of cellaring."
eROBERT PARKER 91-93 POINTS: "The 2010 Beaune Clos des Ursules is dark, rich and gorgeous. Black cherries, plums and spices take shape beautifully in the glass, while the wine’s structure appears later. The balance of fruit, structure and acidity is so seamless that nothing really stands out here. The Ursules needs a few years in bottle to come together, but it is shaping up to be a gem. The Clos des Ursules shut down fairly quickly in the glass, suggesting it may be a number of years before the wine becomes truly expressive. Anticipated maturity: 2018-2028."

quote Robert Parker:
"I have said it so many times that it may be rebundant, but for readers who by-passed purchasing my heavyweight 1990 tome, Burgundy, let me repeat it - Lalou Bize-Leroy stands alone at the top of Burgundy's quality hierarchy. Because she is a perfectionist, and because she has had the courage to produce wines from low yield and bottle them naturally, without fining or filtration."
-Robert M. PARKER Jr.'s Guide PARKER des Vins de France
The nose is very fresh for a 2000-- still lots of cherry fruit, spice, spun sugar and pomegranate fruit leather notes. And the color is a proper Burgundy color: pale translucent darkish red with a touch of copper on the edges. The palate is a wonderland of flavors, from the simplicity of young black cherry to notes of cedar plank or redwood, mixed brown spices (cinnamon, allspice, clove) and more pomegranate and Belgian kriek lambic.
This is an austere wine that echoes the sweetness of youth, surmounted with a glorious layer of acidity enwrapped in a myriad of flavors and scents as described above. Two foods that came to mind to pair with this were either a rosemary/herb-encrusted chicken or pork loin with cranberries/currants.
