reflected by the delicious, vibrant and well-detailed middle weight flavors that possess a beguiling mouth feel. There is a hint of minerality to the firmly structured but not hard or especially austere finish that will require a few years of bottle age to round out. A fine villages."

WINE SPECTATOR 90 POINTS: "A rich, robust red, with black cherry and blackberry flavors augmented by hints of spice and tar. Smooth and dense, featuring a lingering aftertaste of cherry and spice, supported by civilized tannins. Best from 2016 through 2025. 50 cases imported." –BS

Juicy and long, offering a pure cherry highlight on the aftertaste. Best from 2016 through 2025. 20 cases imported." –BS

BURGHOUND 89 POINTS: "There are interesting hints of cinnamon and spiced tea to the predominant aromas of red currant and iron-infused earth. There is the same spicy character to the medium-bodied flavors that are undeniably delicious before culminating in a robust and persistent finish where a touch of wood is evident. This is not a flawed wine in the typical sense but these particular spice elements, which are almost certainly oak-based, are not representative of the appellation either."

BURGHOUND 89 POINTS: "Here the nose is slightly riper with notes of plum, violet, red currant and earth. There is a supple and very round mouth feel to the fleshy and succulent middle weight flavors that possess an attractive texture before culminating in a delicious, easy-to-like and reasonably complex finish that delivers solid length. This should drink well young if desired."

150 years the auction – which is a charitable event benefitting a 575-year-old hospital -- has served as a bellwether for growers, negociants and collectors to gauge the quality of new vintage. The fine Burgundies offered to the participants in the Hospices de Beaune auction are made in very limited quantities, and they represent the best of traditional Burgundian winemaking.
Aromas are vibrant and fresh, with the palate showing beautiful, full fruitiness. There are gentle, finely-balanced tannins, with a harmonious aftertaste of real elegance.

Made with traditional Burgundy winemaking methods, the wine was aged on the lees in 33% new French oak barrels for 18 months. This exceptional cuvée has the potential to age for 30 years or more.

BURGHOUND 92 POINTS "OUTSTANDING": "A subtle touch of wood sets off ripe and relatively elegant notes of earth, dark cherry and spice. The mid-palate is dense, serious and powerful with plenty of mouth coating sap that helps to buffer the very firm tannic spine on the moderately austere, backward and built-to-age finale. While this is presently backward it should be approachable after 6 to 8 years of bottle age though note that it should live for a very long time. For readers having a child or grandchild in 2012 this would be a good choice to buy in quantity at a price that won't break the bank."

VINOUS MEDIA 92-94 POINTS: "Building off the considerable success of their 2009 Beaune 150th Anniversary 1er Cru, Jadot has decided to make the wine again in top years. One of the highlights in this range, the 2012 boasts stunning power, depth and harmony. The lifted aromatics recall the Ursules, but here the fruit possesses more volume and creaminess. An explosive, layered finish rounds things out in style. Some of the parcels in the blend are Avaux, Cent Vignes, Pertuisots, Vignes Franches, Perrières, Toussaints and Chouacheux."

The attractively textured, intense and restrained medium weight flavors exhibit a lovely minerality on the ever-so-mildly austere finish where a barely perceptible hint of dryness creeps in. My range offers the benefit of the doubt that this will harmonize with a few years of age."

VINOUSMEDIA 89-91 POINTS :"(15% hail damage here, according to Philippe Prost; 32 hectoliters per hectare produced): Good dark red. Black cherry, licorice and bitter chocolate on the nose, plus a whiff of menthol. Juicy and deep, showing excellent definition and lift to its black cherry, chocolate and mineral flavors. Very good energy here, with the tannins avoiding dryness." -- Stephen Tanzer

the very round and generously proportioned medium weight flavors that terminate in a rich but dusty and moderately drying finish. Yet again I would advise consuming this on the younger side."

eROBERT PARKER 87-89 POINTS: "The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Boucherottes has a more straightforward bouquet compared to the other '13 Beaune crus at the moment, with lifted raspberry and wild strawberry scents. The palate is medium-bodied with supple, "fluid" tannins, plenty of fleshy red cherry and strawberry fruit that segue toward a harmonious, generous finish. This will probably be earlier drinking but is well worth hunting down."

in the northern part of the commune, where wines are light in color, with soft fruit flavors. The fruit is destemmed and fermented in open tanks for up to a month, in order to extract color, tannins and aromas. raspberry and cherry with soft earth and floral hints. The vibrant, delineated and intense medium-bodied flavors also possess solid mid-palate concentration before culminating in a lingering and complex finish where there is notably better (if not perfect) balance."

eROBERT PARKER 90-92 POINTS: "The 2013 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules has the most mineral-driven bouquet of Jadot's six Beaune premier crus, with impressive delineation and terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, chalky tannins and a silver thread of acidity interwoven through the dark cherry, iodine, cassis and red currant notes. The finish is structured and exerts a gentle grip, but the persistence is tangible, suggesting that this Clos des Ursules has a long future ahead."

palate drenching flavors that possess excellent concentration and focused power that is shaped by the very firm tannic spine that should assure an exceptionally long life. that are trimmed in just enough wood to notice. Just as with the Bèze there is seriously good richness to the muscular and voluminous big-bodied flavors that brim with palate coating dry extract that does a good job of largely buffering the very firm tannic spine. This sleekly constructed effort is excellent and should amply reward extended cellaring."

VINOUSMEDIA 92-94 POINTS: "(from the Morey side; 20% vendange entier; 13% natural alcohol, chaptalized to 13.3%): Saturated medium red. Highly perfumed aromas of huckleberry, blackberry, licorice, violet and menthol. Quite powerful and backward on the palate, with classically dry dark berry flavors accented by youthfully aggressive herb, spice and pepper notes. Very uncompromising Bonnes-Mares with no easy sweetness. Finishes stony and very long, with slightly edgy tannins that will probably require at least a decade of patience. This reminded me of a classic, austere Bonnes-Mares from the old days." -- Stephen Tanzer

This is fairly serious wine for a Bourgogne-- but coming from Marchand (who partnered with Moray Tawse, winery owner in Ontario, Canada, friend and collaborator, in 2011) we are not the least bit surprised. The nose has notes of dried cherries, light spice, white pepper, paraffin wax and a dusting of light florals. The palate continues with dried fruit, cherries and cranberries, kreik lambic, that leads to light minerality, forward acidity, spice and subtle earth. Big, austere and serious for most Bourgogne wines, the level of quality, depth of flavors and overall zeitgeist of this Bourgogne is about what we expect when enjoying wines from Pascal

us to pick more quickly. Because we have such a high proportion of old vines we never have much yield but the counterbalancing benefit is that the fruit is almost always very ripe and riper sooner, which can be a huge advantage in vintages like 2013. Moreover, because the fruit was clean and ripe we were able to use a very high proportion of whole clusters in our vinifications. As to the wines, they're relatively powerful with lots of energy which makes them refreshing to drink."
