BUCCELLA 09 ME
The Buccella wines are always at the top of our lists when it comes to flavors, complexity, and downright enjoyable drinking! The wines are made by Rebekah Wineberg (who has worked with Michel Rolland at Rudd) and Celia Welch (who makes Scarecrow, Corra, Kelly Fleming, and Lindstrom).Buccella's Merlot fruit comes from two blocks atop a knoll in the famed Hyde Vineyard, where harvests typically yield less than two tons per acre. It's a youthful wine that's invitingly approachable, while still offering the richness and decadence we love.
This 2009 Merlot bounces out of the glass full of very ripe, bright red cherry/plum, with a touch of cinnamon and clove-just a hint of orange peel and apricot fruit. As with the Cabernets, the texture here is full-bodied but with a very refreshing acidity and a fruit-focused finish. In the mouth the wine has structure and flow, giving you chocolate, coffee and cedar flavors. Make no mistake, this is one serious Merlot.
