BOTT 12 HARSLEVELU DRY WHITE HATARI

Harslevelu (HARSH-leh-veh-LOO) is an aromatic white grape variety from Hungary, first mentioned there in 1744. It is an offspring of Furmint and, like that variety, is used to make both dry and sweet wines. Harslevelu means "linden leaf" referring not to the shape of the leaf, but its subtle floral aromatics. Thin-skinned and late ripening, Harslevelu is delicately perfumed.

Bott's 2012 was sourced from 35-year-old vines grown in the Hatari vineyard. Perhaps because of limestone-rich soils, the grapes from this vineyard have good minerality and acidity. The wine was fermented and aged in neutral oak. This is a delightful white, both rich in flavor and elegantly dry. On the nose you find aromas of poached stone fruits, lemon zest and spice. In the mouth flavors of melon and honey are balanced by citrus notes and a hint of spice. Serve with cheese, pate, cold cuts, chicken or fish.
