ROBERT PARKER 98 POINTS: "An absolutely spectacular wine from this estate, run with meticulous precision by Hubert de Bouard, the opaque bluish/purple Read More...
2010 Angelus offers up a beautifully sweet smorgasbord of aromas ranging from blueberry pie to espresso roast, white chocolate, creme de cassis, licorice, truffle and a touch of lead pencil shavings. There is even a floral underpinning to this extraordinary, highly-scented, full-bodied wine. Rich, layered and built like a skyscraper, this multi-dimensional Angelus has lavish concentration and moderately high tannin, but it is sweet and well-integrated, as is the oak. Just enough acidity provides focus and delineation to this exceptionally well-endowed wine, which should hit its prime in 7-10 years and last 30-40."

WINE SPECTATOR 97 POINTS: "Got patience? You'll need it to wait this brute out fully. A chunk of tar sits between you and the core of black currant, hoisin sauce and roasted Black Mission fig fruit flavors, while the back end is a road-paving machine laying down a smoldering tarry track of tobacco and freshly ground coffee. And there's an iron note too, as if this needed it. One of the most backward wines of the vintage. Best from 2017 through 2040." –JM

glass of this well-endowed, supple wine. Tannins are sweet and the acidity sufficient to give delineation to the wine. Full-bodied and impressively endowed, it should drink well over the next 10-15 years."

WINE SPECTATOR 93 POINTS: "Still a bit compact, with blueberry coulis, fig and blackberry paste notes tightly wound, backed by tangy black licorice, singed apple wood and tar on the finish, which features a very sleek structure and a buried iron note. This has good vivacity and should unwind nicely in the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2030." –JM

confiture with subtle notes of graphite and crushed chalk along with enormous floral notes, the wine displays a slightly smoky character but a voluptuous attack, mid-palate and finish. Its is full-bodied and massively endowed, with every component perfectly etched in this extraordinary wine, which should be drinkable after 7-8 years of bottle age and last for a half-century or more. This is brilliant stuff. Composed of 73% Merlot, 23% Cabernet Franc and 4% Cabernet Sauvignon from yields of 21 hectoliters per hectare, the alcohol is the highest ever registered at Beausejour-Duffau, coming in at 15%, but remarkably, the pH is modest and the acids relatively elevated, giving the wine an astonishing freshness and precision that is hard to believe in view of its power, density and length. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2055+."

aromas of blackberries and cassis, a classy mid-palate, medium to full-bodied flavors, superb depth and crisp freshness as well as liveliness. Over recent years the large negociant firm of Dourthe has been making improvements and resurrecting the quality of this forgotten Medoc classified growth. The 2010 will benefit from 2-3 years of cellaring and should keep for 15 or more."

displays sweet black currant, black cherry, foresty notes, medium to full-bodied texture with impressive purity and moderately high tannins (although they’ve softened considerably during the wine’s upbringing in barrel). Layered and rich for a Beychevelle, this wine should easily withstand three decades of cellaring. I would give it another 3-4 years of bottle age, but this is a fabulous effort from the first chateau one sees upon entering the appellation of St.-Julien."

of the historical Lynch-Bages terroir. Adding to with the fresh fruit flavours of Sauvignon Blanc, including cassis buds, grapefruit and exotic fruit, flavours of dried or candied fruit and white flowers of Sémillon and Muscadelle mingle. The fermentation and aging in barrels, used precisely, give the wine fine woody and vanilla notes, which contribute to their aromatic complexity. In the mouth, Blanc de Lynch-Bages marries freshness and vigour to a foundation that is at the same time round, ample and elegant. Since 2006, a comprehensive selection project in the vineyards has made it possible to strengthen its vitality and promote its fruity and floral notes. The intra-parcel selection at harvest time and the prevention of the oxidation of the berries before pressing contribute to safeguarding the flavours and to the harmonious aging of the wines. In its youth, Blanc de Lynch-Bages shows itself to be lively and explosive. Sauvignon Blanc, as it comes into full expression, gradually gives way to aromas of dried apricots, candied fruit and nuts, more specific to Sémillon. Throughout its life it maintains an exhilarating freshness and a long finish, typical of the great white wines of Bordeaux.

colored wine. It is aged in 100% new oak, but that is hardly noticeable given the wine’s sensational richness and extravagant fruit. This wine is classic, full-bodied and intense. It’s just a shame that less than 8,000 bottles are usually made. This wine is still backward, but very full, rich, and impressively pure in texture. Give it another 5-8 years of cellaring and drink it over the following 20+ years."

WINE SPECTATOR 94 POINTS: "Loaded, with intense bittersweet cocoa, mulled blackberry, steeped fig and warm plum reduction notes, all layered together and pushed by a loamy finish. Dark, deep and intense, showing some serious grip. Best from 2016 through 2030." –JM

sweet forest floor, blackberry jam, pen ink and graphite, this wine soars from the glass, giving it an aromatic dimension and intensity I have never seen from this estate. The tannins are present, as they are in most Cantenac Browns, but the wine’s sweetness, broad, skyscraper-like mouthfeel, dense, purple color and spectacular length (close to a minute) make this a giant classic and a fabulous sleeper of the vintage that still remains under-priced, considering how great its potential may be. This is a wine for those with cold cellars and youthful DNA. It is going to need at least a decade of cellaring and should last for 20-40 years. A classic!"

WINE SPECTATOR 92 POINTS: "Very fresh, with a bold display of dark blueberry, loganberry and plum fruit aromas and flavors that push ahead, followed by singed spice, black licorice and toasty vanilla bean notes. Displays a polished feel on the finish, kept honest by a buried charcoal accent. Shows plenty of length for the cellar. Best from 2014 through 2028." –JM

Cabernet Franc is a big, powerful, full-bodied, rich wine that in many ways reflects the generous cuisine of this famous bistro. Full-bodied, with a dense opaque/purple color and notes of creosote, truffle, blackberry and black raspberry, the wine also has a floral note and hints of crushed rock, giving it a certain minerality. The precision of the 2010 is there because of good acidity. Forget this dense, back-strapping, intense wine for 4-5 years and drink it over the following two decades. It tips the scales at 14.7 % natural alcohol."

WINE SPECTATOR 88 POINTS: "This has a thick texture, with layers of mocha and cocoa holding sway over extracted boysenberry and blackberry fruit. The dark, plum skin-framed finish relies on power more than guile, with more breadth than length in the end. Best from 2014 through 2018." –JM

scorched earth, tobacco leaf and black and red currants, but no hard edges. Fragrant, complex aromatics are followed by a savory, expansively flavored wine made from a final blend of 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot. The wine hit 13.5% natural alcohol, which must certainly be among the highest they have ever achieved, even eclipsing the 2009. An opulent, precocious style of wine that seems much more developed, complex and delicious than I thought from barrel, this beauty can be drunk in 5-6 years or cellared for 20 or more."

WINE SPECTATOR 92-95 POINTS: "This is loaded, with layers of gorgeous plum sauce, linzer torte and blackberry fruit melding beautifully with charcoal, spice and anise. The long, dark finish has some power in reserve, but it's rounded and enticing." –JM
