BLACK SLATE 2012 GRATALLOPS

Black Slate is composed of 60% Garnatxa, 20% Cariņena, 15% Syrah and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. It pours deep purple with a magenta hue and notes of blueberries, crushed rock, sandalwood, morello cherries, and Vahlrona chocolate. This is an absolute show-stopper to savor on its own and watch as it evolves in the glass with a rich mouthfeel, soft tannins and a long finish.

Black Slate comes Spain's Priorat region, a small, remote mountainous land near Barcelona taking it's name from the monastery, or priory, that Carthusian monks established in the 12th century and introduced winemaking to the area. The winery is located in Gratallops, and was the first winery registered in the D.O.Ca Priorat. This is a family winery since 1942 founded by Cecilio Vincent who passed down his winemaking tradition to his son August the current winemaker. The sun-drenched 65-years-old vines are stressed from its slate soils and sustainably farmed to cultivate this deep, intense, complex wine.
