BLACK KITE 2010 PINOT NOIR
"KITE'S REST" ANDERSON VALLEY 750mL
The beautiful but endangered Black Shouldered Kite native to the Anderson Valley (entrancing label, by the way) appropriately represents this unique and limited Pinot Noir. This family–run vineyard has planted 15,000 vines of Pommard and Dijon clones, the blending of which produces a refined and elegant wine. The microclimate allows for a luxurious amount of “hang time” for the grapes and it’s evident in the glass. The winemaker is Jeff Gaffner of the highly-lauded Saxon-Brown and Xtant brands. The Kite’s Rest Vineyard is located on a north facing slope in Anderson Valley’s remote “Deep End” district. Black Kite Cellars practices the highest level of site-specific, low-impact, sustainable, and fish-friendly viticulture. The 12-acre Pinot Noir vineyard is planted to three 4-acre blocks.
The incredibly bright palate of the 2010 Kite’s Rest Pinot Noir is flush with floral, ripe cherry, currant and brown spice notes with hints of sage and sweet tea. Beautifully balanced and nuanced, the Bing cherry and sweet oak notes carry through the long, broad finish. We recommend decanting for one hour to allow the wine to fully open up if served prior to June 2013. Cellar for up to 5-7 years.
